Sorry, but I am a complete ludite when it comes to mobile telephones. Much to the amusement of the chaps I was working with (one has a new iphone and the other an htc whizbangy thing) my phone is simply a phone. Although it does have a radio!

Anyhow, I've just had an email from carphone warehouse to let me know I am due an upgrade. Great! I thought, time to get up to date.

But man! there are so many!

I have no idea of what is good or bad? All I know is that my past few phones have been Nokia and I quite like them.
I'd like GPS on my phone.
I'd like it to be cheap.

So, what's the best cheap gps phone?

Thanks

I'm a bit of a Luddite as well, & recently taken use of a Nokia Lumia 820.
Runs on Windowsphone8 operating system which is extremely easy to use, very intuitive and simple.

thanks people. I have to say I've had a quick look at their website and the Lumia looks quite nice.

How much does 100MB of data give - i.e. how much browsing would that be? And does the GPS work indipendantly or would the 100MB go towards that?

GPS costs nothing. 100mB is not a huge amount but prob OK for a wee bit of browsing (I can get up to 1GB in a week, mostly on here)

Worth doing a bit of research BTW, a good phone, with good camera, GPS etc, enough data becomes very useful.

+1

I have an ACE and i'm happy. The main limitation is if you install to many you will run out of APP space

the gps is much faster to lock on if the phone can the 3G network

So I think 100Mb a month is a bit tight

Where does your phone spend most of its time?

If it's connected to Wifi in the office most days & home most nights then you may just get away with 100mb, you can also set specific apps & tasks to only use WiFi which may help.

It might also be worth checking out how much a 'bolt-on' will cost in case you end up needing more, your habits mk ight change during the course of the contract (assuming you're on one).

Is 250mb achievable?

I 'think' i have a 250Mb limit with 600 minutes, 500 texts (plus unlimited text booster) and the New Lumia 820 for £26 per month with T-mobile.

I've just got a galaxy s3 from here:

It's rather good.

It';s so worth shopping around. Get a good deal on a PAYG or sim-free phone, giffgaff or virgin or talktalk sim!

EG My San Diego £110, £10 PAYG monthly virgin sim will give me 40m chat (I have no friends) 300 texts and unlimited data.

~£15pcm (similar to the S2 deal but I didn't want 3)

Three are doing good deals on the Galaxy Ace.

OH has recently got one.100mins, 5000 texts & unlimited data...£13/month.

It's an ok phone. Limited app space which might be a problem once you work out what you want it for, screen is responsive but the processor can make it a teeny bit laggy.
Battery life is very good though & to be honest it's a perfectly good phone. Especially for £13/month.

Its true that GPS costs nothing to use, but the majority of phones apps that use it will use your data allowance.

100mb is b***** all

got through 6gb this month.

At least up to 500mb if you can. If its android then you can specify the app connection type and monitor data usage by app also.

GPS costs nothing

technically true, but if you use maps these will be downloaded as required and will eat into your allowance
I'm on 500mb, didn't cost much and use the phone as a sat nave maybe 2 or 3 times a month. Haven't been charged for overstepping the use yet.

Zedsdead; I had a phone call from T-Mobile saying was there any one else in the family who wanted a phone etc. and at the time my OH was looking to get a smart phone so I asked what offers they had.

Armed with a couple of options she then rang Three Mobile that evening & they gave her that deal.

I have since seen it advertised, so I don't think it's just a customer retention special offer.
