MegaSack DRAW - This year's winner is user - rgwb
We will be in touch
as above, who do you use, and why? cheap is good.
RAC via tesco clubcard points
Autoaid - my car is older than 10 years old so it makes sense for me. £38 a year, breakdown insurance - if you break down ring autoaid, they send someone out, you pay the breakdown firm up front, claim it back from autoaid. Used them 3 or 4 times, refunded swiftly and easily. Look them up on moneysavingexpert for lots of reviews.
AA through topcashback. Just got £60 back off of a £105 policy.
Start Rescue is cheap, they contract local garages. Worked OK when I used them, there was a delay before they dispatched the truck as I have a multi-car policy which for some reason didn't show the second vehicle on the call centre computer but can't complain beyond that.
Oh yeah, and I was picked up by premiership footballer Ryan Shawcross's dad, though I don't think that's a standard part of the service.
edit - think my start rescue is at least as cheap as autoaid for rescue and recovery to home or destination, and there's no mucking about with reclaiming, they deal with the garage direct.
Green Flag every time, service is top notch and they don't muck you about. Been the victim of other services and they are pants in comparison. Been a member for over 20 years.
AutoAid +1
Had to make first claim back recently and they were great.
RAC messed me around several times, things like refusing to send a van because I couldn't provide a post code (I was on a hill road with no houses in sight)... Another time, my bike had an electrical fire, I phoned and asked for a recovery, they insisted on sending a patrol first to see if the bike could be repaired on site. 3 hour wait for a man who got out of the van, took one look, said "That's knackered, why didn't you ask for a relay" then got back in the van and drove off.
AA on the other hand I've only used once and they went so far above and beyond the call of duty it was almost embarassing. Absolutely superb.
Oh- I got an enormous cashback payment from topcashback, worth checking out (if you're not already a member, you could use my referral, http://www.topcashback.co.uk/ref/northwind 😉 )
aa... the lads get a bonus if they get the car going so they pull out all the stops..
Green Flag, not used yet but cheaper than the rest so i'm happy to pay for something i hope not to use. Just over £8.50 a month joint cover.
I get AA cover with my TSB bank account
I'm with aa, get them to price match whatever is the best deal each year rather than just taking the renewal.
Used them twice, and they have been brilliant both times.
AA, used them as fleet provider at work, had personal cover with them and my Land Rover warranty is with them. Fantastic service, call centre are very good, wouldn't go anywhere else.
+1 for Start Rescue, they were the cheapest option for national recovery I found without having to delve into any dodgy cashback deals/claim back policies. Even have a nice iPhone App which lets you report a break down straight from your phone...
This months Car Mechanic magazine has a fully breakdown (ho ho) and comparison of all the breakdown services. I use the AA but only cos it's with my bank account. Had to use them at the weekend. Great service. They're also used by my work for our vans and never had a problem.
