Honda Integra R - Pull the bonnet release and notheing happens except the cable remains loose. Reach up under the bumber and pull the cable by hand and nothing happenes except I cut my arm on a bit of the bumper.

How do I get the bonnet open?

The cable pulls and it feels like the catch mechanism is moving but the bonnet doesn't pop up and cannot be persuaded to lift a little. Can't get to see the the catch mecanism as the bonnet is in the way! Can only just squeeze my arm in enough to pull the cable.

Help Please.

Get someone with a skinny arm to release it whilst you try to gently lift the bonnet

I could be available, but I'm afraid it will cost you.

Rudeboy - I have the Merc as another car. Actaully weren;t RudeBoy Mercs quite popular in parts of London?

Falkirk - I was pulling the cable release while wifey was trying to lift the bonnet. It didn;t work.

It feels like the cable is moving part of the catch lever but the lever isn't releasing the actaul catch. Unfortunatly I can't get anywhere near the actual catch because there is a car in the way. Even a skinny runt wouldn't get their arm in there.

I had the same on my car...the cable got loose or slack but fortunately for me I could grab the cable and pull manually as it were to get it open. I think garages are quite used to this problem and should not charge you too much to sort.

WCA,

I had a similar problem on a car I used to have, press down on the bonnet as the release catch is pulled - obviously, you'll need someone available to assist 😉

Or.... take the bumper off and have a look?

i'm not too familar with Honda's i'm afraid..

I am guessing it is a trip to the garage. I have tried the pushing down while pulling the cable, pulling up, a bit of both, bouncing up and down, kicking the wheel and swearing. That's the extent of my mechanical ability.

I guess I will have to pour the water down the windscreen jets to fill up the screen wash.

WCA,

Other than removing the bumper, thumbing through a Haynes manual, I'm not sure what to suggest!

Would the release arm pull out of its holder so you could really pull on the cable? (i'm thinking stretched cable!?)

My integra also does this , basically the rubber seal on the bonnet gets all sticky 🙂 .
you need to pull the release while someone else lifts the bonnet.

one this has been done just put a little 3 in 1 or on the rubber strip or give it a good clean .

sorted

Get your wife to pull the lever while you bang the bonnet with the palms of your hands.
Works everytime

Get somebody to push down on the bonnet to take the tension , off the spring that holds the safety catch on.

Pity its not a clio as they have trouble keeping the bonnet closed, BBC.CO.UK/WATCHDOG
