He's not flying. He's going to float there on his inflated sense of self-importance.

You appear to have trouble with basic comprehension:

I doubt that the VW will be any worse on fuel than a modern, large campervan. I'd say flying to NZ is more of an issue, wouldn't you?

Sorry Ransos, got confused by all the recursive quoting. That was meant to refer to the Man of a Thousand Logins, not you.

And probably far worse than an x6 for example. All this 4*4 hating for fuel consumption reasons is a nonsense and an easy get out for the idiots who can't think for themselves. A sports car is far worse for the environment but you'll find plenty of 4*4 haters with a so called environmental conscience cooing over them.

I'm perfectly capable of thinking for myself, thank you. Fuel consumption is a problem, the danger to pedestrians and cyclists is a problem, the amount of space they need for parking is a problem. I don't think I've ever cooed over a car in my life. I prefer bicycles.

I wouldn't say the original joke teller was being 'mean' just fairly immature.

A point that the OP has already acknowledged, so why are you making such a big deal about it.

Why on earth are you hiring a split screen vw camper other than 'because they think their choice of car makes them look good'.

I need a vehicle to get around, and somewhere to sleep. So I need a campervan. Out of the choices available, I like the VW the best. I'm not concerned about how it makes me look.

All this "£50k is a crazy amount to spend on a car" is a bit ironic coming from people who spend thousands of pounds on bicycles.

Kind of. I'm not opposed to people spending £50k on a car (if they want to incinerate their money, it's up to them), but an X6? What are they actually for? It wouldn't seem to fit any criteria you might have when choosing a car - e.g. practicality, economy, performance or looks.

ransos I thought people only hired old vw campers for the image thing. Is there another reason I'm missing? I wouldn't have thought they would be the most fuel efficient way to get about. I could be wrong of course.

In fairness we also laugh at people who pay thousands for a BMW bicycle 🙂

ransos you do seem to be getting hung up on this whole x6 thing. But to indulge you - practicality - well that depends what you need it for as not everyone buys a car like that to stick a load of stuff in the back, economy - no better or worse than any other car of that ilk, is it? performance - 0-60 in around 6 seconds isn't exactly slow. Looks - well we live in a country where people are free to like different things - just because you or I don't like it doesn't mean others don't.

Can we give up on the whole x6 thing now please.

Well, I needed a campervan, I liked the look of the VW, it has enough space for 2, it sounded like a bit of fun, so it fitted the bill. I wouldn't have thought people buy them for image reasons - they hardly scream "I've made it"! I can't imagine they're much worse on fuel than a larger, heavier modern campervan, plus they are conserving resources by saving the materials needed for a new vehicle.

A bloke in the paper the other day bought a Ferrari last year as an investment for £700k and sold it bake to the same dealer for £100k profit, the dealer then sold it for a £50k profit. Not a bad pen1s extension.

Image isn't all about saying 'I've made it' in monetary terms though ransos. To a lot of people it's all about thinking they look cool and so others say 'oh he's really cool he's got a vw camper' for example. Nothing wrong with liking classic cars though, I've got one myself.

£850 000 for a car Dobbo ? You sure you don't mean £85 000? Or is the world crazier than I thought?

lol at £85k for a Ferrari. mugsys_m8 your seeing it as '850k for a car' rather than as an investment. I wouldn't imagine the owner will nip down to tesco in it.

The numbers weren't far out, the profits were correct!

A BUSINESSMAN has made £100,000 profit in less than a year by selling a rare Ferrari which he never even drove.

He snapped up the 2004 Enzo from UK supercar dealer Tom Hartley for £625,000 last year as an investment - then sold it back to him for £725,000.

But Tom still made a £50,000 profit by flogging the motor - a favourite among collectors - to a British businessman for £775,000 within a WEEK.

No doubt he'll pay capital gains on his £100k 😉

I can only speak for myself. I think they're nice - I like the retro style (I have two retro mountain bikes as well) but I wouldn't know what other people think about them.

And your bemoaning the impracticalities and performance of an x6! 😉

I love old cars to but I wouldn't take an environmental stand point on them being more environmentally sound. If you're hiring then a modern vehicle that'll do 30 odd to the gallon as opposed to 20 odd to the gallon must be better. And as you're hiring then the environmental aspect of production can be discounted.

My old bikes are extremely practical - one is my commuter because it'll take guards and a rack. Try that on a modern mtb! Neither of them have much technology to go wrong, and are inexpensive to repair if they do.

You can't discount production - if there was no demand for hire, then the hire company wouldn't buy them. Modern campervans are bought new, whereas VWs are used. I'm not claiming that the VW is particularly virtuous, but that fuel consumption is only one aspect of a vehicle's environmental and social impact.

Ah so you're using an unrestored original split screen vw then? That'll be an interesting journey.

The bikes comment was qjoke, lighten up fella.

The guy in the X6 couldn't give a flying f@ck what a couple of ugly w@nkers in lycra riding bikes think, beleive me

Except he clearly did, as demonstrated by his reaction.

And when he got home, he'll have found that his big expensive car hadn't made his penis larger or his wife prettier. And cried.

as my cronies and i, alighted our respective vehicles, having been for a Stonking pizza and a pint, at the pizza and a pint pub on the..... west[?] end of llanberis, we wandered passed one of them there new fangled Ragely Ti's

"how silly" i say

"i agree, its a jumped up sarcin surely?" says another

"i would like a bike as impractical and expensive as a Ti HT please, but would like really ugly welds" cooed a third.

as said fellow pulled off, i also happened to remark "a singlespeed too, what a nichemonger" (as it was one of those gearless waste of spaces)

we smiled to ourselves, however as he spun out down the road and flicked his angry fingers after taking them off the mary bars, we were forced to crease over with laughing.

oops, probably wouldnt have been so rude if we'de known he was a Mleher.

tee hee!

......perhaps you had to be there? but thought i would share anyhoo

It'll be restored I'm sure, but that takes fewer resources than building a completely new campervan.

I didn't take your bikes comment to heart!

By the time he'd driven off he'd have forgotten about the losers getting into their economical bangers after eating in Pizza hut with the only thing to look forward to being going home to their 1 bedroom flats and bashing one out to the kays catalogue.

😆

Imagine seeing someone riding through town riding an expensive DH bike, with aero carbon road rims, 18mm slicks, twin 203mm discs front and rear, full face helmet and race pyjamas. and motocross boots.

You’d laugh, and you’d be right to laugh. If he got angry at you for laughing, you’d be right to laugh harder.

You can defend his right to spend his money how he likes, you can praise him for his contribution to the economy, even if you don't know if he's a doctor, banker, owner of a clamping company or a drug dealer.

But you can still laugh at him for choosing to spend a decent amount of money on something that does nothing particularly well except attract attention.

Having driven an employees x6 (who I'm clearly paying far to much) it does travel from a to be reasonably well, in comfort and at a reasonable pace. It didn't particularly attract attention when I drove it but then again neither myself nor my employee live in a slum.

Not everyone wants to drive clapped out mondeos you know.

What did you thinbk of it when you drove it nedrapier?

You’d laugh, and you’d be right to laugh

I don't think morally that you would be 'right' to laugh, justified perhaps but not 'right'.

It's a bit close. the X6 has elements of different styles of car, and combines them in a way that doesn't allow those elements to be optimised.

And if there aren't posts defending the X6 driver, there are certainly plenty attacking the OP, which amounts to the same thing.

I posted because it seemed to me that the OP was laughing at the driver because they thought he had a bad car, but then was being flamed because people thought he was jealous of an expensive car.

Before you asked whether people liked your "parody" I wasn't sure whether you were attacking or defending the OP.

I'm quite surprised the OP still has teeth left after verbally abusing an innocent bystander who happened to have a BMW.
Go to Blaenau Ffestiniog tonight and call someone there a fanny.
Who cares what the car was that kind of attitude will get you hurt.

I mean it's not like he bought a bike based solely on the type of metal the frame was made from regardless of it's ride qualities or suitability to his normal riding style now is it 😉

I mean that's jut so stupid nobody would ever do that 😉

ber-limey! I haven't driven one, they might be really nice for all I know. That doesn't really matter.

There are some criticisms about the concept of the X6. Some will say they are valid. Some of those people may be the kind of people who have a bit of fun at other people's expense.

It does not necessarily follow that they must be jealous of those with the funds to buy an X6.

But this thread has gone to 4 pages because some people assumed that it did.

I tend to be a shades of grey person, but I like to think that if there is black or white, I don't fill it in with whatever shade of grey I go looking for.

Hello to you, X6 owner, saturday night in llanberis.

as my cronies and i, alighted our respective vehicles, having been for a Stonking pizza and a pint, at the pizza and a pint pub on the..... west[?] end of llanberis, we wandered passed one of them there new fangled X6s

"how silly" i say

"i agree, its a jumped up 1 series surely?" says another

"i would like a car as awkward and uneconomical as a 4x4 please, but would like no bootspace whatsoever" cooed a third.

as said fellow pulled off, i also happened to remark "and an automatic too, what a fanny" (as it was one of those stickless waste of spaces)

we smiled to ourselves, however as he REVVVVED off down the road and flicked his angry fingers out the open window, we were forced to crease over with laughing.

oops, probably wouldnt have been so rude if we'de known his window was open.

tee hee!

......perhaps you had to be there? but thought i would share anyhoo

That is exactly the same kind of attitude the car drivers who throw bottles at cyclists have. We are better than you. We dont belong to your inner circle so we will abuse you types. Absolute gimps the lot of you. I wish it had been some local druggy gangster who proceeded to get out and 'put a cap in yer ass'.

Seriously, you have no right to complain when the next numptie takes a dislike to your wierd bike riding attire and throws a can of coke at you when he drives past in a puff of smoke.
