Earlier in the week there was a forecast of snow today, so i prepared to cycle in. As the week went past the site deminished their forecast to now snow and sunny.

10:30 this morning the heavens open and dump 1.5 inches of snow and now the town is gridlocked.

Couldn't get home for my half day holiday so have gone back to work. Looks like everyone in town paniced, including the schools who threw the kids out early by closing the schools.

I know this is a poor rant, but what with the new swearing policy ...

OMG! 1.5" of snow!

Unbelievable! How will anyone live to tell the tale?

p.s. not quite sure why anyone thinks predicting something that hasn't happened yet is likely to be easy.

1.5" of snow does not a dump make. 1.5" is a mere flurry.

It's a forecast. Forecasts are a prediction. Not an absolute certainty.

The models used to attempt to predict the weather are hugely complicated, and don't cover all the potential atmospheric, ground and sea conditions that can affect the outcome.

I was speaking to my neighbour earlier in the week. She is (recently) from the Ukraine. She said "Oh, this snow" I was amazed but she continued "I'm used to snow and cold, but here in this country, everything stops! There were no buses so I walked to work - it took three hours - then I stayed overnight because I didn't have time to walk home and back again for my next shift".

Yes folks, she WALKED for THREE HOURS to get to work. Makes you think eh? (Oh, and she walked back the day after too).

So it's just me who's confused by that then ?

The BBC Weather predicted that there would be snow today. You got snow today. But going by your comment "Bloody BBC Weather" I assume that you are not happy ? Why........do you think the BBC specifically organised that it would snow just to **** up your day ? 😕

Does that mean they are a bit rubbish then?

No, it means that they are "forecasts" ie, predictions or estimates.

Otherwise they would be called "the weather schedule" or "the weather timetable" would they not ?

Just prompted me to look at Metcheck again for a laugh.
-17c and snowing it says... going down to -23c and sunny next week (-30c windchill) 😉
It did snow so it got something right.
