I just gave my car it's bi-annual wash. Over the course of winter it seems to have picked up a rash of black spots which aren't coming off with turtle wash & wax. What's the best way to remove that's 1) Easy and 2)doesn't require a 12step cleaning process to concourse finish. I don't think a dented Dacia is ever going to be worthy off that effort!

Thanks

What type of black spots? Hard lumps that are actually sticking up off the paintwork? If so, then probably tar. You can buy bug & tar remover which will have that off.
I think something like WD40 or GT85 will also work, but I have never used them on car bodywork in case they damage the paintwork at the same time as removing the tar.

This sort of thing:

WD40 will take tar off no problem.

That cheap claybar from Halfords is great. I did a brand new car and I couldn't believe the amount of crap it lifted off.

Claybar and some detailing fluid is what you need.

That £6.99 clay bar looks just the ticket - thanks!

If you use that clay bar, be sure to break it up into small pieces and use it a bit at a time. It will quickly get contaminated if it is tar, so you are better off using small pieces (like a 10p piece size, but thicker) and regularly binning it for a new bit.

For lubricant, I just use my car shampoo watered down with water so something like 10:1 - depending how strong it is, can probably go for weaker.

Don't do what I did and fully unwrap the whole thing because then it'll glue itself to the box and any other surface you leave it on. Just cut off what you need and leave the rest in the plastic.

EDIT: Kind of beaten to it^^

I use Bilt Hamber clay as it was made for use with water rather than detailing fluid, claying a whole car with a spray bottle can be hard work so a hose with the fine mist setting can save your grip

Most little rash type black spots are actually little bits of Iron fallout that have rusted and as they rust they get a little bigger and get stuck in the paintwork - yes im a nerd but i like to detail cars as a hobby.

Before getting a clay bar and clay barring the car which will most likely work a less time consuming and far easier method is to get a fallout remover, you literally spray it on leave it and it turns purple as it reacts, then you can wash it off with a hose/pressure washer.

I use Bilt hamber korrosol - just be aware that it stinks.

As above, iy stinks like dragon's breath too.

Chemical removal of tar or fall out is also less damaging to the paint, claying would come after.
