I was really lucky to get my hand on some Olympus 10 x 42 EXWP I at Currys in an end of line sale for £100. They are listed at £350 on play. Ive been blown away by how good they are. Never thought just what a difference money spent on good optics could achieve.

Check out the http://www.opticron.co.uk/ site. Excellent quality stuff. I've got some 10x28 Oasis for carrying on the bike & travelling, & a GS spotting scope.

steiner 8-30's that are available in various versions (military/marine/wildlife)
10x is quite wobbly when handheld. do you really need the extra 20mins a 40-50mm objective lens gives you at dusk? that's a lot of glass to carry around.

Another vote for Opticron-I have a pair of 8x42's and they are superb.Cost me £200 several years ago but not sure of a comparable price now. Try to get yourself to a specialist like In-Focus where you can handle a few pairs.

Another vote for Opticron. I've had the 8x32's for about 5 years. Not cheap but great quality and very clear ans bright compared to cheaper ones. IMO 8x32 are about the largest size you want for a bike/walking pack unless you are seriously into wildlife tracking

got a very good deal on some bushnells (for my mum) from either microglobe or warehouse express

reduced from £200 to less than £100

Have to say, in comparison to my Leicas they are pretty good for the money

I bought a pair of Avian 8x32's from Ace Optics in Bath after my venerable pair of Pentax 7x25's broke on holiday. Saw them in the window and tried them and was blown away by the bright clear image. Waterproof, fogproof, nitrogen filled and rubber coated, they were £82. They do bigger, around 10x42, for something like £130ish. The guy in the shop said he'd tried a pair of the 8x32's when they came in and promptly bought a pair to replace an older pair of Zeiss binocs. They seem to be fantastic value.

Have a look down the bottom, they've got some 10x42 Avian Trekker's for £99.
