Off to sunny Spain on Fri with the Mtb and flying with Monarch, the t&c's say that the sports bag you buy for a bike is 20kg max.
So any one actually flown with Monarch and taken a bike? Just wondering how stringent they are with weights. Currently my bike bags coming in at a shade under 20kg but I'd like to add another 2kg or so of kit etc...
Cheers
I've flown with monarch several times with a bike. It's always been a road bike so lighter and always below the 20kg. From memory the bike bag was always weighed in the UK but never abroad. I personally would try to stick on or under the 20kg limit as monarch are a budget airline so will sting you at every opportunity.
There is a condition it the T&C's saying the bike bag should only contain a bike so no helmet or clothes etc. I've never stuck to that though and the contents have never been checked.
I'm doing the same in 6 weeks. Bike box and road bike with a bit of kit should be in the 20kg limit, not worried about the extra kit but I won't go over 20kg as I'm sure they'd screw me for it.
Cool, cheers guys.
Got enough allowance not to, just would like to have added Mtb shoes, spare tyre and a few bits. Not to worry I'll stick with it at is is and play it safe. Don't fancy getting screwed at check-in.
Can't remember if I've flown with Bikes on Monarch, but we flew to Portugal with Easy Jet last month and our bike bags weighed 21kg and 26kg and no one batted an eye lid (road bikes with loads of other stuff packed in there as well).
