We're thinking about trying out a trailer for our dog (spaniel size) as we fancy the idea of longer distance rides with him. Anyone got experience of this and any advice on what trailer to go for - there seems to be a lot of choice and am guessing difference in quality depending on price. Cheers, Nicky (& Milo!) đŸ™‚

we have a doggy ride novel. apart from the slightly odd name it's very good. we got it for our elderly labrador so we dont have to leave him behind. he used to come with us on epic trips all over exmoor dartmoor the peak and more. we stick to easier bridleways and lanes now and let him out for an amble on the easy bits or when we are grinding up a hill.
modifications - replaced the tyres with the fastest ones I could find.

bought a spare axle mount so we can take turns towing.

hes not keen to get into it but falls for the sausage treat trick every single time. and then spends most of the time squeaking to be let out as he thinks hes still a puppy and cant understand why he cant run along bless him.

it makes travelling a bit more involved as there is even more ramble to pack into the bus but you can pack a fair amount into the trailer. or you can fold it.

Go go for the lightest one you can find and make sure you get out and walk now and again to give him a rest.

Some Vaseline on the harness will stop it chafing.

If you want to go faster, get some more dogs.

we have an Infantastic kids trailer which Mrs Vader modified for the four legged coffin dodger. It works pretty well, primarily as it was free. It is quite big - its designed as a two seater but a medium sized dog seems to fill it quite well. It was quite hard to get the dog to stay in, first couple of runs were a zipped in no stopping affair, now she sits in with her head out like a tank commander shooting the breeze. It is a heavy load but all in all works well. It is quite common round here, I have seen three similar set ups in a single trip but all in much smaller trailers.
Trick is to let the dog out now and again to tire them out, then they are happy to be in it.

ps very drole PP

I'd love to see some pics of these in action. Old labby, ex trail dog would love to get out with us again but not sure we'd get much use out of it on the hilly South downs.

Halfords 2 kid trailer has worked well for us, our Tibetan terrier just sits in a plastic Tesco crate inside and secured with his harness / lead to the frame

Re connecting it to the bike
We bought the Robert Axle shimano e through axle - worth every penny

This is where the e bike really works for us

It’s great fun to bring the dog on a ride and sometimes we just use it for the road segment then lock it up
