after the success of letting you guys influence my honeymoon Tour of California i thought id ask again,.
starting a bike tour in Vancouver Canada at end of July. Got a couple of days to acclimatize/explore the city at the start
before i end up booking a YHA against the wifes wishes
Any one got any hidden gems of places to stay or bike friendly AirBnBs not fused about being in the center but I'm not sure hauling our tourers into many of the apartment blocks I'm wading through on airbnb will go down well. - our first day on the bike is Vancouver island heading north.
cheers.
Get yourselves on warmshowers.org
Have a look at the San Juan islands. I've only been to the US ones an hour on the ferry from Anacortes in WA. About an hour south of Vancounver on the train, that gets you to Mount Vernon and then about a twenty mile ride to the ferry. Bike tourists heaven. Shaw Island is very quiet, the only camping is on a USFS campsite. We made it our base and skipped on ferry day trips to the other islands
Just back from Squamish which is just an hour up the road.
I was surprised how many cyclists used the sea to sky highway which goes via horse shoe bay, Squamish, whistler, pemberton which you probably know.
Horse shoe bay is a lovely place only 30 min from vancouver. We met a friend there for the day as she lives on vancouver island. Lots of ferries to lots of locations which means it could be a good Base.
It was a family holiday so only managed 1 day in the park at whistler but a local on the chairlift said Squamish has better natural cross country Trails than whistler. Looking at the map in the Squamish adventure centre I think he was right.
Can't really help with accommodation as we were cat sitting for a friend whilst she was away surfing in california.
considered that mcmoonter although i feel a little uneasy about starting a tour that way - pay yer way and all that.
we are planning to ride up to port hardy - take the ferry to prince rupert and ride back to calgary via jasper and banff.
I will be riding my self fit again as itll be on the back of a 6 week work trip in angola where im unlikely to see a bike even in passing.
although i was surprised when i booked , my old BA avios account had 100000 avios in . 66000 of them took near 400 quid off the flight bill !
I stayed here http://www.buchanhotel.com/ a while ago (years) and it was okay. It's been so long I'm hesitant to fully recommend it but it's in a good location and cheap (for Vancouver)

on a bicycle??? 😯
Why not rs ? Read several accounts on crazyguyonabike where folk have done it
Lotta climbing.
Cheers sweaman will send that to the wife for her appraisal.
But hearing you on the cost of Vancouver.
Well in a random.turn of events a Google search found some stuff on air bnb we would never have found on airbnb site.
Staying in a 1970s boher caravan in someone's garden in a suburb of Vancouver on a bus route.
Only slightly bigger than the tent and only slightly smaller than the postbus 🙂
Much cheaper than staying in town centre too 🙂
We sold our '73 13ft Trillium travel trailer last year, all these fiberglass trailers are certainly collectors pieces now with a pretty cult following.
Ours was the upmarket version of the Boler where as a 6ft person you can actually sleep without your legs bent.
It'll be an adventure..no toilet though....
Sounds like you've found somewhere now, but the YWCA is reasonably central, relatively cheap and has secure bike storage in the underground parking area (only accessible by key fob).
bearback ... i thought the boler was 6ft 6 ......
i may find my self sleeping on my thermarest in the garden if its no good for anyone above 6ft....
i know its only 6ft tall mind...
