Stayed at the Drunken Duck for a few nights, it was pretty good. There are better places but a lot more money and not pub grub

I came on to post about Strickland and Derby Arms. We enjoy the Cavendish in Cartmel too. All a bit south from Grasmere!
Not a pub, but the Jumble rooms in Grasmere has always been good for us. George Hotel if you head up to Keswick.
Some ok ones in Hawkeshead
The food at Tweedies is great in Grasmere.
Not really convenient for Grasmere but The Kirkstile inn @ Loweswater is consistently excellent. Lovely beer so try to get someone else to drive!

Pub grub in the lakes, you say? There can be only one, sir. It's my default. Booked well in advance when ever we head up.

Binners beat me to it. Cow pie is excellent at the George.
Wilsons at Torver is nice food, plus the Black Cock (fnrr) at Broughton in Furness. They had Kirkby Lonsdale Monumental on as well when I last went in.

Masons Arms at Strawberry Bank - a bit of a drive (nice one) and tricky to find, but worth it IMO

Grasmere's a bit of desert for decent pubs, couple of good restaurants in the hotels
For when the longer days are here I'd suggest a walk over easdale to the Langstrath and back, but mebbe not in december
Oof, that cow pie looks wonderful. Anyone know how the Newfield Inn at Seathwaite is these days? I used to go years ago when camping at Turner Hall. It was very good then.
^ I wen't on a stag a couple of years ago it was "ok" they are friendly in their but the food is pretty average I'd say

For post-food beer (or even pre) the Golden Rule in Ambleside is great for a pint or five. Also, don't forget to pick up some proper gingerbread when you're in Grasmere. You're not too far (and part of a great mtb loop) to pop over to Elterwater and have lunch/dinner/beer at the Brittania Inn.
Ton - the [url= http://millerhowecafe.co.uk/ ]Miller Howe cafe[/url] in Grasmere is pretty good, it's licensed but no draft real ales.
If you end up in Keswick The Pheasant Inn does really nice food - it's nowt fancy just high quality pub grub with loads of real ales on the bar
The Square Orange is my favourite Keswick cafe, it's a relaxed place to eat or drink.
Neighbours like Eltermere Inn in Elterwater - round the corner from Britannia - but sounds on a parr with Duck re pricing.
Havent been to the Outgate for ages but used to be ok pub grub esp for kids!
