Got the xmas do next Saturday for a company I joined six months ago.
The invite says dress code: dress to impress.
What's the concensus on where tbat points on the fashion scale?
I hear some colleagues are thinking jeans / smart shirt.
BTW: I have a variety ranging from DJ to jeans... but the missus is worried.
I think if I saw an invite that said "dress to impress" I'd be strongly inclined not to go.
For the record: I'd read that as DJ, or something else properly smart, but then again I'm not au fait with fashion standards.
In general it means not what you would wear to the pub on Friday afternoon ๐
I think that probably means navy uniform and a blackjack
Why not ask your colleagues?
Ask a number of them in different places and times and not all at the same time.
Gimp suit is unlikely to impress. Probably.
A base layer thong.
If you bust too many moves on the dancefloor at least you'll be able to regulate your scrotal temperature
Dinosaur outfit.
T-rex is well impressive.
TBH, I'm amazed there hasn't been a "Christmas do dress code" thread before now.
you can wear a dinner jacket absolutely everywhere.
Nightclub, pub, waterskiing, watching football..anywhere.
If in doubt dinner jacket
wallop - I'm impressed you chose to wax.
That was the dress code for my works do. I got away with smart black jeans, shirt and skinny tie. The night was expensive, soulless crap.
My office Xmas do doesn't have a dress code. However, it is in a pub with a circus bolted to the back of it.
Consequently I'm not going. I am paying for 1/4 of it though.
You're leaving so many questions unanswered there, aP
Here's my outfit from last year
The lesser-known, Titzen.
What would you wear on a first date? That's what you wear.
If dress to impress was a DJ it would say Black Tie surely!
As per the other thread, ask the person who sent out the invite.
Men are becoming such women this days, or is it just hardcore mountain bikers ๐
that dress code would have me running a mile.
Invitation. It's what you use to invite someone.
Grrr.
Who the **** are they expecting you to impress. Sounds like an 18-30's holiday thing. If that were on an invite for me I'd very quickly declare myself out.
What are the rest of the [s]team[/s] squad wearing?
However, it is in a pub with a circus bolted to the back of it.
We, thankfully were given a vote on ours and this was an option. Because we are all decent human beings we are off to an alright restaurant then to a pub of our choosing.
In my experience, the phrase 'dress to impress' is usually followed by the phrase 'Ladies entry free before 11' and 'Security: tight but polite'.
In which case, congratulations: you're going to a garage night for your xmas do! ๐ Wear a moschino shirt, tight black jeans and boxfresh Gucci loafers.
You can thank me later ๐
Not so much "dress" but it would impress me
I don't think Alpin is invited to this party
Shoulder holster and 9mm automatic pistol ๐
Somebody needs to explain more to me about the pub with a circus bolted to the back - sounds quite fun to me (but then I've decided to reclaim "weird" as a positive term).
you're going to a garage night for your xmas do!
yep. has to be.
Surely it means you must don the little black dress and stupidly high heels?
Don't trust the people who tell you 'jeans and a shirt will do' cos they'll be in a rented tux!!
Usual fair for me, booked a posh hotel so ill turn up in a cheap M&S suit - becuase someone will spill something on it- have a couple of drinks, talk to the big cheeses then bugger of early for a hot shower and a G&T from the minibar.
Can be arsed with the Christmas letching / drunkards.
