Machine is 5 years old, but was a high spec model when new and would be pricey to replace.
1440 by 900 screen about to fail (about a dozen vertical lines at present 🙁 ).
Anyone have a recommendation for a decent, reliable place that will replace the screen and do a couple of other upgrades for me (bigger hard drive, possible new keyboard, maybe some more RAM)?
Thanks in advance.
where in the NorthWest? There's a good guy in Leigh, you're not far away are you?
It really is very very easy to replace a laptop screen. Get a screen of Ebay and a set of them little screw drivers from the pound shop.
Agreed. I've replaced a notebook and an IBM screen with no problems.
RAM and harddrive will take no time at all. Can't believe the keyboard will be too difficult.
What Brant said. The only difficult part is if the plastics are glued to the screen, you need to be quite careful not to bend them.
However, if I can do it, anyone can...
The brilliantly named "pawn computers" in Stockport replaced the screen on my acer. Quite quick turnaround and seemed reasonable value.
brant is right - on many laptops it is reasonable easy. I even did an old Dell D630 for my parents once - bought the screen on eBay and watched a video on YouTube just by searching for info...

Rusty, unwanted post coming up......
have you costed it up? really?
screen + drive + ram + keys + labour versus new ? all those bits will still be going on a chipset that is five years old
post what the laptop is, I'll work my google magic 🙂
Well, if you provide the parts, I can do that lot. I accept payment in most major forms of alcohol.
Ta for the replies folks.

Hey! I was warming him up to let me do it!
I'll do it for a back massage.
