I've just swapped my Windows phone for an Android one and started to look for equivalent apps to 'GPS to Grid ref' and 'Run the Map'. I assumed the Android apps would be much better than the Windows ones, but can't seem to find suitable equivalents. Anyone got any suggestions, please?
The OS have a Locate app that'll give you a OS GR.
No idea what Run the Map is.
It's just a really simple activity tracker for running, cycling and walking etc. Very basic, just works well.
Endomondo will do that then. Or Strava.
If you just want to record a GPS track, I use "GPS Logger for Android". It is a quite simple/lightweight app, but loads of options to tweak if you want. Works fine for running or cycling etc.
Or if you want more fitness features, try RunnerUp. It can automatically upload to Strava etc.
For maps/navigation, I like Maps.Me.
Anyone use Backcountry Navigator?
Viewranger, I've been using it for years and it's by far the best. There is a free version that you can use with opensource mapping and premium version which lets you buy either national parks of map tiles of OS mapping.
I use Backcountrynavigator, free 1:25000 OS mapping and Strava to store routes,times etc.
So if you buy backcountry navigator for a tenner you get full 1:25000 os maps?
Gooogle fit worked fine for me.
Nobeerinthefridge yes, i bought it 3 phones and 2 tablets ago and still get all the os maps i can eat, you need either a data connection or pre-download areas, which can be a bit of a faff. It's ok but i find the interface unintuitive but its ok, certainlyworked out cheaper than buying memorymap etc.
