We will be in touch
I really would like to finally get into the game. What's best for a complete beginner?
I just use one called Chess Free from AI Factory. Google Play store.
It's good for whiling away a train journey. Goes up to Level 12. I'm teaching my little niece on it at the moment on Level 1, it's got Basic & Pro modes (basic does things like showing where each piece can move to, tips and the option to take your move back, Pro removes all of that and forces you to play touch-move as well).
Normally about Level 8 or 9 for me - any higher and the computer takes forever to think about it's move and it annihilates me anyway!
Good app if you can put up with it flashing up adverts for online Poker games in between every match.
I have Chess Pro on my tablet. Really good user interface, easy to use and works on all sorts of levels.
It costs a few pounds (can't recall exactly but really not much). Well worth it.
If you are a complete beginner though, there's no substitute for a human teacher.
I use chess.com, has options to play a computer or human, it has a score system so you can play with someone of equal ability, you can vary how long you take for a move. Also has daily challanges to test you and videos to teach you. No adverts either
If you have an Android phone I can recommend DroidFish which is an Android port of the Stockfish chess engine plus a nice GUI to let you play on your phone.
spark chess is good.
5 levels to choose from.
I am a beginner.
I am on chess.com. The app is decent enough but note you need (or did need) a subscription to access all the lessons. I had a subscription last year but didn't make the most of the lessons. My colleague swears by https://lichess.org/ - apparently better match analysis and more free stuff. I will try it soon.
