Isn't that Junkyard and Deadlydarcy?
There are two 'best films' in my humble opinion:
- Jurassic Park
- Willow
Both are part of my childhood and both are incredible!
Took my lad to see it today for his birthday. I think the grownups in the audience were laughing more than the kids most of the way through. It is a very good film. 😀
(It's not *the* best film though. That's Back To The Future, obviously, duh.)
Best bit of DM1 was the credits with the Minions and the mini movies "Banana" I'm looking forward lots to seeing DM2
No it's not.
The Abyss is.
Bapple?
The Abyss is a great film, if you can ignore all the alien shit at the end.
Not sure I can pin down a best film ever, but Blade Runner, Moulin Rouge and (possibly bizarrely) Scott Pilgrim vs The World would be up there.
Damm forgot about Scott Pilgrim, I'm going to have to watch it again now.
Plus Rango, Serenity, Kung Fu Panda 1.
But Bapple does take some beating
The Searchers
Bladerunner - that is all
Surely it must be - Once Upon a Time in the West
The Blues Brothers. Well, best musical anyway. . . . .
Ok. Dances with Wolves is far and away the bestest film ever made. End of Discussion. 😉
Rita, Sue & Bob too.
I'd forgotten Jake and Elwood
floaty alien shit
FTFY 😉 😆
Escape from New York... You can even watch it right now on ITV 4 to see just how correct I am.
Or not as the case may be 🙂
The Princess Bride.
How come its taken this long for someone to say it.
My cider addled brain is stuck between Seven Samuri and City of God. Both amazing though *best* is hard.
deadlydarcy is a little bit shorter.
Ive still not seen the first one yet 🙁
And we're both much better looking. Though we might fight to see who is more one-eyed.
Oh and 🙁 at the usual bullying.
🙂
i'll have to go away and get the long list down a bit..

Nope, gotta be Leon.
"no women, no kids".
I love Garden State enough that I can even forgive the completely terrible cringy bit. Perfect soundtrack.
Usual suspects. Best twist and reveal ever.
"Best film ever" ?
Two actually...
The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou.
&
Inglorious Barsterds.
Stalag 17
enter the dragon, it still looks good after more than 3 decades.
goodfellas, good shout on that one.
a few years ago i would have agreed with T2 but watched it a couple of months ago on tv and it just felt a bit . . dated.
Agreed on the Despicable Me 2.
Watched it yesterday, my family and it seemed the whole cinema was in raptures, best 3d I ever seen in a film as well.
Not sure its better than the Godfather, apples and pears, but its a very good movie.
Mmmmm, papoi
All wrong. Mad max II
Satantango
by a country mile. Those few who have seen it right through will know.
Forbidden Planet
Robot, Ray Guns, Flying Saucer, extinct alien technology with suitably futuristic (at the time)soundtrack
Forerunner in many ways to Star Trek and not hard to spot the things that Roddenberry used from this film
Margin Call
In the heat of the night.
Ran.
Edward Scissorhands.
Subway.
So let me get this straight.
Despicable me 2 isn't actually the best film ever but it's pretty darn good!
We watched Despicable Me on Friday night in anticipation of daughter number 1 going seeing the second one yesterday for her friends birthday. And no matter how many times we've seen it ( and its a lot!) its still hilarious!! Parents and little sisters weren't invited unfortunately, so we were very jealous. The report back says its even better than the first! Which does make it the best film in the world EVER!!*! We'll have to see it this week!
* Apart from the Big Lebowski, obviously 😉
saw it yesterday at zefferilis... I fell asleep... was it good???? 🙂
I've only seen the first one, but it bored me and I didn't finish watching it.
In the CGI-Pixar type stakes, the Incredibles has yet to be beaten, but UP was pretty close.
Did anyone actually read the thread title? 🙄
In answer to the OP. Dog Soldiers .
At least someone's got taste, Northwind wins with Garden State, truly amazing film.
Dune
American Psycho 😉
Escape from New York...
+1. Hugely underrated movie and Kurl Russell's finest moment.
Shame about the sequel.

Current top 5:
The Shawshank Redemption,
Batman: The Dark Knight,
Gattaca,
The Goonies,
The Matrix,
Apocalypse Now
Crouching Tiger...
Hero.
If you like that sort of thing.
most/ all the above plus
in the realm of the senses
wages of fear
Taken & Up.
Pulp Fiction or City of Gods
Debbie Does?
FORREST GUMP or SAVING PRIVATE RYAN or anything with Tom Hanks
I am not getting into a 'best film' discussion especially on STW. I always feel so narrow minded and unsophisticated when someone's favourite film is something I've never heard of. It's almost as if they are trying to be windswept and interesting 😉
Despicable Me 2 tho was great. We loved it. Kids loved it and I want a minion. Or 2.
Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit
We loved it. Kids loved it and I want a minion. Or 2.
I want a room full of them...
HEAT and seen scum aged 12, been mentally scarred ever since .......
