With xmas looming and a 3 and 4 year old in the house, I need to stockpile batteries.
Any good deals on decent ones about? mainly AA and AAA
Ive bought the cheap ones in tescos, and they last about 5 minutes!
Do you have an ikea near you? If so their batteries are excellent and only £1.50, if I remember rightly, for 12 AA, they also do AAA
7 day shop usually have deals on they’re own brand are pretty good.
Or Amazon Basics if you're a Prime

I have this for bike lights, although this year I've moved to all usb chargeable lights but I don't find it that practical for the house.
A decent charger and some NIMH off Amazon Basics.
8 pack Ultra Power Duracell AA or AAA £8.50 in Tesco BOGOF so 16 x for £8.50
I've had a duracel 4 battery charger for a number of years, takes 4xaa or aaa or 2 of each. Or just 2 of the same size.
So much less hassle than disposable batteries.
Bigger initial cost, yes but a far more sensible longer term solution.
I use Wilkinsons for high drain stuff like flashguns if I don't want to carry power packs with me. The difference to brands seems minimal and the prices can be bonkers low.
Aside from couple of high priced high performers and a few dud at the bottom of the scale most batteries are much of a muchness in terms of performance - supermarket own-brand and comparable to (or out perform sightly) duracell's batteries.
So in terms of stored energy theres not that much between them

but in terms of cost per electron theres quite a lot. Ikea and Costco own brand are the best widely available (non lithium) batteries but Ikea give the most electrons the the least pennies and Duracell cost the most per electron

It seems words like 'Ultimate, Optimum, Super, Ultra' just as applicable to the best batteries as they are for the worst 🙂
