How about odd ones? Here's Peter Tosh's take on Johnny B. Goode!

"Mama said son you gotta be a man
You gotta be the leader of a reggae band"

Awesome early video too, the owl, the lip-syncing and the unicycle...

Like where you are coming from tazzy, prefer the original though.
How about the Threat doing 12Xu. God how I love Minor Threat. They are the perfect antidote to every crap song you hear that needs banishing from your ears. Talking of which ,that new Nickleback song, jeeeeez.

The Clash cover of Cadillac is very good, Vince Taylor original, not sure tho, some of the lyrics are The Renegades version.

Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before - Mark Ronson.

All Smiths fans should hate this, but it works. Morrisey likes it too, which is nice.

Some great suggestions already, but this is my all time favourite.

Dire Straits' 'Money for Nothing' by Royal Trux:

It's what the original SHOULD have sounded like.

Obviously the only decent cover versions are the ones that change the style of the song completely eg.

The Hayseed Dixie cover of Comfortably Numb is superb. A bit tricky to find however. Their covers of Ace of Spades and holiday are excellant as well.

I thought Leona Lewis did a really good job of Run... The backing's a wee bit overfussy but it's a fine vocal. Also, she's nicer to look at than Gary Lightbody

Loving that Elbow version of Independant Woman. The cats are the icing on the cake.

FFS - Leona nailed 'Run' on the Live Lounge admittedly, but the produced version and Radio 1 killed it. Can't bear to listen to it - much prefer Snow Patrol and I don't really like Snow Patrol
