MegaSack DRAW - 6pm Christmas Eve - LIVE on our YouTube Channel
I really really really want this new motorbike game Ride.

The promotional videos look stunning.
Last console I bought was a wii, and I love it..
So PS4, or xbox one?
Which one have you mates got?
PS4 is the winning one of the current Gen though, games are just starting to appear that use them to their potential.
Buy my PS4 that's in the classifieds 🙂
What Drac said.
The PS4 is nominally the better gaming rig but there's not much in it. I'll be getting a One though as a) I'm coming from a 360 and some games let you transfer saves, and b) all my mates are on Ones so that's good for me for online shenanigans.
You beat me to it 😉
Just thinking of adding another 7970 to my improved 6-core 4GHz rig.
Where is your god now console-apologists!
how much did that 'rig' cost you?
best console ps4 xbox one?
Neither. As above spend £1000 on a PC so you can enjoy your games with extra bugs long after everyone else. But just look at the frame rate 😀
On a purely ergonomic level I find the PS controllers too small (and I've got relatively small hands). I found extended periods of gameplay get uncomfortable and my hands would cramp up.
At the moment, there are better deals on Xbox One, but both will be fine if you just want that one game.

I'll be honest, I looked at that advert as am after a PS4, and it's a bit pricey.
Well, I wasn't making a serious point, I was geting an easy poke in 🙂
But, if you must know, about 800* in 2009, and the Xeon 5650 was 60 a few months ago, and the 7970 Vaopur-X was 180. Another will cost me about 60-80 [bidding on ebay].
Around the price of two to three consoles then.
So - for gaming it's boss 🙂 but, also for work! It also got me through 4 years of uni, a year in industry, freelance 3d and design work, ripping and storing 1TB of movies and, uhh, several pages of STW post history 😉
It's a different

I'm just having fun here, as ever.
*Not counting monitor, as I doubt you'd count a TV
But just look at the frame rate
And the texture/post processing detail in general TBH.
Quick best patch the drivers for the card. Ah man now the game won't play I'll have to do rollback or wait for it to be patched.
I really have never had that. Not in the whole time I've had this W7 machine, and this is speaking as a guy raised on Macs who hates problems!
Not once. Maybe with x-fire I might have a problem?
But then, I wait for the games to be out a while first so there's a x.1 patch.
It's not a PCs fault the money AND DEV TIME is in consolistas.
Boo.

I have many times and one of the reasons I've pretty much given up with PC gaming. Doesn't matter how long the game has been out, in fact that can be worse as the developers may stop supporting it so doesn't play as well as once did or not at all. Even those long lasting games such MMORPG suffer from hardware being patched and either have to fix it themselves or wait for the drivers to be fixed.
Is this with a red or a green camp card?
Lost me there?
Nvidia or AMD
I hear AMD cards are more stable.
Used Nvidia last few years but it's been with both.
Well, to get back to the original Q....
I've got Ride on a PS3.
Not sure I'd want to spend new console money on getting it - unless of course it's loads better on the new gen consoles.
The gameplay is really good, you feel like you're really controlling the bike by moving your weight - virtually of course. A bit like the PS2 motorbike game - think it was Tourist Trophy?
The graphics are pretty good.
The sound is a bit rubbish.
But the worst thing about the game is the amount of time it takes to load everything..... Every time you go for a new race, every time it saves, you just wait, wait, wait.
Almost puts me off playing.
Not to join in the e-peen contest but just anecdotally, I gave up on PC gaming.
The last time I needed a new PC I specced up a gaming rig, then realised that I was about to spend in the region of £1500 quid for something that would be obsolete faster than I'd care to imagine. I was bored of the arms race, of spending the price of a console on a video card only to find that the game I wanted to play a couple of months later required randomTechnology 5 and I only had randomTechnology 4.
I jumped to consoles and never looked back. The PC's still handy for retro gaming and will happily throw around less bleeding-edge games like say Shadowrun or Warcraft. For modern games I have the console and know that whatever game I get it'll work just fine without a tech arms race or beta video card drivers. Multiplayer Just Works without relying on a mish-mash of lobbies, game 'library' engines like Steam, and arguments over Ventrilo vs Teamspeak. I can see who's online regardless of what game they're playing and can chat to mates with no fuss. All on a 42" 'monitor' and thunderous Dolby Digital surround.
I do concede that the PC is the most powerful platform but, really, I don't give sufficient shits about frame rates for it to be worth the hassle.
required randomTechnology 5 and I only had randomTechnology 4.
Damn n00bz. RandomTechnology (RAT) 8 is where it's at.
Consider yourself pwned....or something.
I left off that there are two controllers, they cost £50 each.
Maybe I need to look at my pricing. I thought a ps4 with 2 controllers and 5 top games was a steal.
Guess it's only worth what people will pay right. 🙂
Feel free to make me an offer.

😆
35899,0.

I wasn't boasting. The only bit that's done by me is the build and overclock.
I was kind-of taking the piss, but also making an observation - Consoles are not cheaper than a machine, or many uses, built in the last few years.
2009, man. My x58 is 2009! A few years back, yeah, obsolete in 9 months. Now, not so much. It's all about the interconnect bandwidth.
Anyway, I'll leave you to talk about which console you should buy.
£200 Mosey?
sorry, I looked at your add previously too but it's a bit white for me to offer any more 😕
A few years back, yeah, obsolete in 9 months. Now, not so much.
To be fair, it's a while since I really [s]cared[/s] looked into it. My (jocular) comment was really more to highlight that one is really 'better' than the other, but rather I was just explaining why I did what I did.
Ps4 for bloodborne alone. Nearly 40 and gaming more than my kids again 🙂 psn I'd is piratringo if anyone wants a game. Oh and the last of us single and multiplayer os amazing
Ps4 for bloodborne alone.
This. Had a 360 since it's release, but went for the PS4 this gen, for a change and because I like souls games and wanted Bloodborne.
there's a playable demo of Ride on PS4 at the moment, I played it yesterday. The game was fun, the graphics are good, the sound is meh but the load times are akin to Ice Ages. At one point I genuinely thought the game had crashed. Wouldn't get it based on this alone.
Oh and my vote goes for PS4, because I have one obviously. The controller is bigger than previous generations too.
Up until recently I hated my PS4. Pile of crap.
Shadow of Mordor changed all that, awesome game. Bloodbourne looks great too although I'm playing Far Cry 4 at the moment which is OK.It's taken a long time for any decent games to come out.Hopefully now the canal delivery system has started (extra points for understanding that reference), it should be fine.
Been playing FarCry 4 a little latterly. Great little sandbox game as always with them, safe bet games.
I've got both , tough to choose between them as it depends on your needs.
I prefer the bigger controller of the Xbox and the UI as well, just don't think the PS4 UI works very well and is a little confusing but then I come from an XBox360 and never had a PS3.
I think both UI can be a bit head scratching at times when you're trying to find something.
Online is NOT free on the PS4 unlike the PS3, not free and never has been on Xbox, Xbox comes with a free month of Xbox Live (mine did any way)
XBox controller is not rechargeable. PS4 is but the battery life isn't great.
If you are going to move it around a bit the PS4 is easier as it's all in one, the XBox has a frickin' mahoosive power brick.
Neither machine is a light-weight.
Spotify is available on PS4, Amazon Video is on both.
PS4 also uses a standard power lead (like for a dvd player) XBox is proprietary. Only really matters should you lose/break it.
Exclusives may swing it for you, I bought the PS4 first because I couldn't see the reason for sticking with the XBox when there was no backward compatibility with the 360. Then realised I would need an XBox for Halo 5 when it comes out. DOH!
TitanFall was immense fun while my month of free Xbox Live lasted though 🙂
Xbox comes with a free month of Xbox Live (mine did any way)
Live Gold is about £2/month, and worth it just for the free games (doubly so at the moment as one Gold sub gets you both 360 and One games).
XBox controller is not rechargeable
Works just fine with rechargeable AAs though. I've had a couple of "Play & Charge" packs and went back to AAs.
True enough, actually IME the Xbox controller lasts a LOT longer on rechargeable AA's than the PS4 with it's built in battery.
Good call on the free games as well, many of them have kept my son entertained.
A subscription on the PS does get you free games as well, they just seem to hide their availability quite effectively it seems.

These are largely my reasons for getting a One too, though I'd add onto the list that I also generally prefer Microsoft's controllers to Sony's.
How much will a PC cost that'll run GTAV at the 4K resolution shown there, with a frame rate North of 30fps?
http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2015/04/heres-what-youll-need-to-play-grand-theft-auto-v-in-4k/
Shitloads, but some of us have most of one already 🙂
Plus, it's not all about the pixels, you could MSAA and get most of that quality from 1440 or even 1080p.
In which case twin 7970s and a 4GHz Xeon will do just fine 🙂
So to answer your question, for me, about £350 as an upgrade.
wow
