(honourable mention to British Sea Power... I'm not really a fan but their Sea of Brass shows were amazing, just so joyous)

@Caher, but is it the Apples or is it Brass Against?

If rock counts, Little Angels.

kind of iconic in pop, though the actual brass is a bit generic sunday band stand (by design)

Can’t beat Sweet home Chicago really. But if I had too, love the section starting about 0:50 here...

I suppose some mad dutch kids doing afro beat probably isn't pop, but they have brass

Brass, you say? An outstanding cover by Calexico

Not ‘pop’ as such, but you won’t find much better brass playing than this, Becky and Rachel Unthank with the Brighouse and Rastrick Brass Band

In the same vein, Kate Rusby, and a song about her own family, with lovely brass.

@Nick - when was that? I’ve seen Calexico a couple of times in Bristol, close up, but not that close up! Superb band.

@CountZero Greenman festival 2015, think it was the Saturday night, they had just played the main stage to 10000 people, me and my brother were on our way to see the Fall and just happened to notice they were due on for an impromptu set in the the rough trade tent, and there was no one there, so we grabbed the front spot, gave the guitarist a beer and watched them play 3 more songs, suffice to say it was rammed very quickly, just lucky,

Sunday night was mental brasstastic afrobeat with Jungle by Night closing out the festival with the most bonkers set and crowd I've ever seen, finished at 3am Monday morning, I'm having a flashback as I type this.

Good to see the brass revival. It's been too long.

Hopefully, it will start to evolve further into proper TV themes. Like the olden days, when a trumpeter was never unemployed.

I give you Sportsnight

Wimbledon Match of the Day

Ski Sunday

Grandstand

https://youtu.be/HLHMxFGqhIs

And the Granddaddy, Match of the Day

https://youtu.be/EOwflBBebKU

Proper brass.

NO mention for Baker street? OK again its a sax which IIRC actually counts as woodwind for some weird reason

I don’t know if it’s near the best, but I like it.

And since we’ve had a little jazz, here’s some more. Although you could fill the top 10 000 places with jazz!

I wondered that also. The sax sound comes from player's breath vibrating a reed, whereas in brass, it's the player's lips vibrating which makes the sound.

According to wikipedia that is.

Brass Against maybe stretching the pop definition slightly but worthy of a shout out

Ah Kate Rusby's "My Young Man". Brings a lump to my throat that one 'cos of my family background. It's not pop though.

Now the sax embargo has been lifted.
