"The tax risk would have exceeded £2bn. I paid him to keep calm and not to do silly things."
So he owes us £2bn in taxes??!? Am I reading this right?
The way I read it he paid bribes of 28 million to avoid alerting the UK tax authorities that he avoided 2bn in taxes.
The only reason I can see for him not being in prison is that he is filthy stinking rich.

I very much doubt the uk tax authorities are capable of pining anything concrete on him. I hope the German courts reach the right conclusion.
Interested to see how this pans out - I bet briatore is waiting in the wings with a "bringing the sport into disrepute" claim, but Bernie can probably buy the German legal system too.
Nasty little man
It reads to me that he bribed this bloke to avoid paying the correct tax, has admitted to it openly, and isn't at all worried about any consequences?!!!
Either he thinks he won't go to prison because of his age (in which case he might want to glance Bernie Madoffs way), he's confident he can buy his way out of it (either through further bribes or paying up and getting a slap on the wrist), or he's not bothered about doing a bit of time (he could probably offer to build a new prison on the condition he gets a nice cell).
Oh to be filthy rich!
