I'm going on a stag do in a couple of weeks and thus far the best men have organised sweet FA in terms of an activity to break up the continuous drinking.. Has anyone been to Berlin before? What's it like for big groups of lads trying to get into decent bars? I can't imagine getting 25 geordies through the door of many establishments is going to be easy..

Any tips on particular areas to go/avoid with a stag group - my understanding is that it is quite a sprawling city and don't want to end up walking all over the shop. I went to Dusseldorf a few years ago and the setup there (the old town) was basically a compact grid of streets made up of hundreds of bars and restaurants which made things easy. I think Berlin will be quite different to this..

Any advice, comments, ideas would be much appreciated. I need to try and kick the best men into touch before we fly out.

Berlin is notoriosuly difficult for getting into clubs. I'd say you have no chance as a group of 4, never mind 25. Most of us got into Berghain and Watergate with some dubious flamboyant dressing and splitting up into groups of two.

Bars should be alright, especially if you go for the big beer hall type places.

Cheers for the info Aldo - just read up on Berghain.. we've got nee chance whatsoever of getting in there!

Ha - Aye plyphon something like that.. In the absence of an "activity" I want to go on the hoy properly and not spend 2 days walking about the place I guess.

Berlin's probably one of the worst places in Europe to do a British stag do it unless you are a group of uber cool hipsters. The locals have zero tolerance for 'ladish' behaviour.

I can recommend Lab:oratory or KitKat as fine establishments.

Just arrive in pairs 5 minutes apart.

Burlesque theatre performance was an unexpected highlight when i was in berlin on a laddish stag do.  Started quite early in the evening thankfully.

If you make use of the u-bahn and S-bahn that should cut down some of the walking.

Brandunburg Gate, Reichstag, Spy Museum, Topography des Terrors, Checkpoint Charlie museum all worth a visit

As it should be. 🙂

Are the airfares already paid? If not, why not stay here in the UK? There is plenty of drinking to be done on these shores without the added costs.

Boring. Bet you're a real hoot on a night out.

I'd take getting refused entry and walking aimlessly around Berlin over a night in any UK town any day of the week...

That's total balls, and possibly only applies if you're a group of absolute neanderthals without a dozen brain cells between you. I had my stag in Berlin, 10 of us, and it was epic. And we didn't stop drinking.

The bus bar in Kreutzberg isn't there any more so I'm told. The amount of small hidden away bars that were welcoming and served superb beer was just staggering. We had an awful but great night in the karaoke bar in the high rise car park. We got into Tresor no problem and it was worth flying to Berlin for alone. Segway tour with a chap from London guiding us, his stories were cracking.

We stayed at a huge youth hostel. Got back one morning at 3am, lights on in the room, a load of drunk pish and banter, got to sleep and a wee while later saw 3 wee girls that had been sleeping/hiding in 3 of the empty bunks slink off out the room, I guess hoping to find somewhere less sweaty and stinking to sleep for the night, poor things!

I came back from Berlin a lover of Techno and get a warm cosy feeling at the thought of going back there again one day for some hardcore drinking. We ended up in so many little cool pubs. I guess we are a cool bunch after all!

Thank you for the responses everyone. Some real polarised views up there ^^^!

As with any group of lads over a certain critical mass there are some reet dickheads (myself included at times..) but in the round we're not too bad..

I'm looking forward to experiencing some proper dance/techno music in some good clubs but take the point on arriving separately in 2's.

Flights and digs all booked so we're definitely going! Best man has just informed us all we're paying for a guided bar crawl on night 1 which should prove useful for getting the lay of the land for night 2..

Cheers

If you're after some clubs that aren't super "high brow techno" (IE: you're more likely to get in.) try Chalet - there are also some great bars along the river nearby.

If you want some cool views of the city, Klunkerkranich is a bar on the top floor of a multistory carpark, and they often play decent house/techno too. Worth it for the views alone, imo.

You can't physically turn up to Klunkerkranich in more than 6 or so, because you have to use the carpark elevator to get to the top!

Nice one - thanks plyphon! The Klunkerkranich sounds quality - will have to make sure we at least try to get in there. The best man is still adamant he's going to Berghain like.. think he'll be on his own!

If you want an easy way to spend a few hours during the day a canal /river cruise is worth a look.... Warschauer Str Station gets you the other side of Friedrichshain. Lots of bars in the area and that it's where a lot of river cruisers leave from.

Boats have generally got a bar on board.
