How do they make any money? I assume only part of their income comes from annual subs, with the majority coming from on-site sales. And then there are the pay as you play courses...

Was thinking the same thing as we walked through the course in Aberfeldy with over a foot of snow on it 😆

Its a stupid course because it's flooded for at least 2 months of the year as well.

You won't find an orange ball in 1ft of snow. Or the ****ing green for that matter!

Yes I am bored - only one in work and *trying* to do a VAT return.

It'd play havoc with your handicap as you try to putt an easy shot and as it reaches the hole the ball has become four times it's original size and won't go in.

Course just shuts, no problem on a private course, the club house and pro shop remain open. On a public course they lose the day/s takings...Most courses close during heavy frosts too

My mum's club closes the course, tramping snow then ice then slush all over the green is not good for the grass!

The club house and shop stay open, though. I think they make a fair amount of money from their christmas lunches etc.

Ahh right - I wondered whether the regulars would bother going if there was no golf to be had but it sounds like they do. Not being a golfist I had no idea but I just drive past lots near where I live and I had got to wonder.

I'll start caring about golf clubs when I can no longer ride a bike. 😀

Golf courses make the best places to go sledging 🙂

Though what we did (uncles are pro golfers at a golf club) at this time of year when the course was closed was to drink the whisky the members gave as christmas presents, then play 'cross country' golf pished.
Was great fun

GrahamS is correct. I've just ridden up to Mellor Golf course near Stockport.
The powder is so deep that 2 people were snow boarding. Also 2 little lads came sledging down so fast that their faces were covered in the powder, ace fun.
