if I try and charge a 7.2vNiMH rc car battery with an old trickle charger for a 6v lead acid battery will things go badly wrong?

Basicly it wont work. You cant realy put enough into the battery from 6 volt anyway.
The racing packs cut off at around 10.5v
So you need either a mains charger or a fully charged 12v battery and a proper NIMH charger for it to work.
