For printing, that looks OK. And is reasonably easy to use.

Which software? It needs to be free!

I'm thinking Scribus/Gimp or similar. Any suggestions. Free cake available to the winning suggestion, although you'll have to collect.

Dark Chocolate and ginger btw.

How much text? Lots of images? Additional graphic elements required? Different packages do different things well

Get a graphic designer to do it for you. He'll most likely do it for free so he can put it in his portfolio.

Mac or PC? For all its weaknesses as a word processor, Pages (on the Mac) probably fulfils those criteria for page layout work.

How about LibreOffice, and a flyer template?

Will you be needing pie charts, and a logo? 😀

Bare in mind that if you're having it properly printed, then most printers don't like weird file formats. So its worth checking you'll be able to export your final files as hi res PDF's at the very least.

If you wanted to do it properly in Indesign, then Adobe now do that monthly subscription thing. So you don't have to splurge a big wad of cash to get started. Worth considering, as its surprisingly reasonable.

Edit: Just had a look for you and you can get a 30 day trial of Creative Suite on the Adobe site

http://www.adobe.com/uk/products/creativecloud/buying-guide.html

I'd do that, and use the proper software

I use Powerpoint for basic leaflets.
You'll probably need to print to a PDF which is native on a mac or use one of the free pdf printer drivers on a windows PC.

If you have an iCloud account sign-in in a web browser and see if you can use Pages on-line.

A4 folded 3 times, text and images. Nothing fancy.

Get a graphic designer to do it for you.

We have a volunteer that does the logos, fancy stuff. What we need is to create a rough template so we are happy with content. And occasionally create and print (in house) leaflets in relatively small batches.

Mac or PC?

PC

I'm pushing for logos of pies as I type.

I'll have a play with power point, it may be enough with stuff created in Gimp and exported as a jpeg/png. Probably able to work around the layering doing that. Hmmm.
