We are in the process of making our basement more usable for day to day stuff like a play room and office. The floor is basically dry to the touch but I guess it may not be 100% free from damp as the house was built in 1963.
Currently the floor is just painted concrete which is not too bad but we are considering our options. Tiling would be ideal but there are 80 sqm to cover so it's a big and expensive job. Are there any other options I should consider besides new pain or maybe a rubber floor covering of some sort?
Easyist would be new paint or carpet / carpet tiles
to tile or stick anything else IE Rubber to it would need the paint removing and the floor testing properly for damp
1963 it should have a dpm under the concrete as standard
Scrape paint off and check for moisture content. Either get a pro with a Tramex to do it or leave a small glass bowl on it sealed with duct tape or putty for a few days. Any condensation will suggest a high moisture content. There are excellent two-part paint on epoxy DPMs on the market (eg Sika Primer mB).
