banter
Line breaks: ban¦ter
Pronunciation: /?bant? /

[MASS NOUN]
The playful and friendly exchange of teasing remarks:
Example - "there was much good-natured banter"

Can people please at least try and consider what the word actually means? You can't be insulting, ignorant, or just plain wrong and then try and hide it by saying, "Banter!"

Or put a smiley on the end of everything? You know, just in case.

A bit of a recurring theme at work this one. Thankfully the myth of the 'banter' was partly dispelled by the Malky MacKay episode.

People seem to think that describing abuse as 'banter' makes it ok.

Like when people say 'with all due respect' then show absolutely none. Whenever I do this I tend to say 'with all due respect, meaning none in your case'.

Agreed! It's the new version of saying "don't take this the wrong way but..." Or adding "no offence" on the end. Means you can be a prick then defer it to them for not being 'sporting'.

"Aaah, I know I called your girlfriend an ugly whore, but it's just banter mate". RAGE.

I try to keep the insults down to people I've actually met, or at least corresponded with.

Most of my contributions are obvious bollocks and I'm genuinely surprised when anyone takes me in the slightest bit seriously.

😀

You did note that I placed the word banter in such a grammatical way as to suggest that it actually wasn't banter?
