Lego combined with Back to... That's quite possibly one of the greatest things ever.

'roads? Where we're going we don't need roads!'

CaptJon - Member

a few people do.

the millenium falcon kit above, is totally awesome, there are probably 'special'* pieces in it.

but the point is this: you can use those special pieces, and build something else.

awesome.

(*many of which are probably used in other kits)

I think that the special pieces are good actually. What I don't like though is that that makes the kits less versatile - eg a wall is now made of one big wall piece - you can't use that for anything except building a wall whereas in the past, it'd have been built of lots of blocks which then allowed you to build all sorts of stuff - basically it makes building up a collection of Lego more expensive.

I'm just rediscovering the joys of Lego - I used to love it and have loads when I was a kid - now my son's getting into it. I got a huge box of it second hand a couple of weeks ago from gumtree for only £30 - reckon there's about £3-400 worth in there! Result but it's a shame it's mainly the Harry Potter stuff as my son just wants to build spaceships...

must go into my parents' attic to see if mine is still up there.

Anyone else recall this?

(I know it's the US version of the 928 - Lego geek 😉 )

Very fond memories of the galaxy explorer

EDIT: Great little storage bay in the back complete with smooth tiles for easy loading...

Oh I loved Lego!!

Remember having this when I was a kid

[img] [/img]

It was kinda hard to build I remember that much. How the differential worked still confuses me to this day. The gearbox even worked! Can't remember if it was two speeds or forward and reverse, though.

Apparently, Lego are the World's biggest tyre manufacturer or something?

Rachel

I have both of those kits pictured above, stashed away in my parents loft for when my kids (3 and 1 month old) are ready for lego.

I had a different version of the "car chassis", guess it must have been a 911 or a Beetle!?

[img] [/img]

There's definitely way too many special pieces now!

Remember this:
[img] [/img]

I bought it for myself with paper-round money when I was 17. £80 IIRC. No cars or under-age drinking for me. I'm not a geek though, oh no...

Still got it in the loft with the rest of the Technic. Keep, or ebay?

That's the later one.

Special pieces don't have to be a problem - I mean decent CV joints enable FWD or 4WD which was never really possible before. I made a CV joint from standard bits but it was a bit too big to be of use.

Real cars are full of custom bits after all.

This monster has been a tripping hazard in my youngest boys room for a few years. Never been the same since it fell of his chest of drawers.

Yep, that Galaxy Explorer rocked - but so did a lot of the space kits.

And Rachel, I was given that car for Christmas ... I had a right strop when my brother kept using the controller because I thought he'd kill the batteries. Just downloaded the instructions and a whole load of memories came flooding back 🙂 Happy days.

It's the full 10 minute version of Michael Jackson's Thriller, re-enacted with stop frame animation Lego characters.
Dancing Lego zombies. Life just doesn't get any better than this.

I had the rear engined car chassis. The Galaxy Explorer was a dream set of mine when I was younger, which I never got... until about 3 years ago when I picked one up from eBay. 🙂

I did get the Galaxy Commander, which was a successor to the Galaxy Commander for a birthday when I was a kid, though:

I had an obscene amount of space lego, including the Galaxy Commander and Galaxy Explorer.

And last year, at the age of 37, I got to go to Legoland in Bilund, after a 33 year wait 🙂
