i'll start 😉
and to finish with 😀
Well, if Nena gets in, how about "Call Me" by that Italian bird
I'll stop the world and melt with you song by whoever..
MSP +1. Good going to get anthem status with one shot.
I really liked Safety Dance by Men Without Hats.
Archaic browser on my work laptop wont let me on youtube but I nominate Wang Chung's Dance Hall Days.
Martha and the Muffins - Echo Beach
Still love it.
MSP beat me to it, although the album is great too

Indeed, although I've never really thought of "them" as a OHW. They were really just Gregg Alexander plus session musicians, who won a grammy for a Santana song and wrote piles of (mostly rubbish, to be fair) pop songs for people in the 2000s and despite "dropping out" of the music industry because he didn't like being the front man of a band, made shedloads of money through writing.
You Only Get What You Give was an awesome song though.
'Crash' by the Primitives??
Dunno about awesome, but it was good enough for me to purchase...
(For Konabunny: Spaceman by- Babylon Zoo)
However, this is... awesome
(For Konabunny: Family Stand - Ghetto Heaven)
Proclaimers? Er - I'm Gonna Be 500 Miles, King of the Road, etc. All high charters.
Space? The Mock Turtles? The Proclaimers? Are we redefining one-hit wonders as bands that have had several hits?
Proclaimers? Er - I'm Gonna Be 500 Miles, King of the Road, etc. All high charters.
Aye, but all most of us remember is 500 miles...
The Proclaimers, with their 9 albums over 25 years (2 gold and one platinum incidentally), their 3 top 10 singles, oh and their succesful musical and £4m-grossing film 😆
Was Female of the Species not Space's big hit?
As for Stiltskin, I'm not sure... They did have 2 hits technically, but Footsteps was the EXACT SAME SONG as Inside so probably shouldn't count.
Space? Who posted Space? 😆
Was Female of the Species not Space's big hit?
Actually The Ballad of Tom Jones which got to no. 4!
I appreciate we're straying from the "awesome" theme, but it's better than the Proclaimers!!
Space? The Mock Turtles? The Proclaimers? Are we redefining one-hit wonders as bands that have had several hits?
Well having checked Wikipedia, to make sure I hadn't missed some massive slew of smash hits, it concluded:
"Can You Dig It?" breached the Top 20 in the UK Singles Chart. Their follow up single "And Then She Smiles" failed to replicate the success of the previous single, only reaching no. 44 in the charts…...
…...The Mock Turtles were unable to follow up the early success and were dropped by their label
I'd say that pretty much defines one hit wonder, doesn't it?
Frontier Psychiatrist - Avalanches
Proclaimers? Er - I'm Gonna Be 500 Miles, King of the Road, etc. All high charters.
Yes, that's why I posted one of their "other" hits upthread.
Can someone else do the Youtube link but how about 'White Town' - 'Your Woman'?
Reached no 1 and they only reached the UK charts once again at a lowly 57 so pretty much the definition of 1 hit wonder.
how about carl douglas - kung fu fighting
Can't believe no one has posted Chesney yet:
early 80s coke ads...
White Town: "Your Woman":
In no particular order of merit:
4 Non Blondes - What's Up
Goldbug - Whole Lotta Love
Love grows where my rosemary goes. Edison Lighthouse.
Pop perfection.
How the **** is that song 44 years old?
I loved it when I was a kid, feeling really ancient now.
Fiction Factory - Feels Like Heaven
Freak Power: Tune in Turn on Drop out
Imagination - Belouis Some
The Seahorses - Love is the law
Anyone remember Glorious by Andreas Johnson
Some good ones here, White Town!
Anyone fancy linking me a little Yes by McAlmont and Butler? Maybe a little not-one-hitty but who cares, it's ace.
Hope you don't mind the live version, but the geeetar in this is ... well
there's definitely some far from awesome shit flying around too (Chesney? Korgis? 😆 )
How about Black - Wonderful Life?
or Tamsin Archer - Satellites
or The Only Ones - Another Girl, Another Planet
and as for Kung Fu Fighting - technically a two hit wonder, as I think it made no 1 note once but twice...
My ex mrs was in a one hit wonder type situation
It was proper shit but by god did she go on about it
tenfoot - MemberFrontier Psychiatrist - Avalanches
The had another hit with Since I Left You

In the UK yes, they were only big in Oz though.

No one mentioned Deee-lite "Groove is in the Heart" yet?
Monaco - what do you want from me. 90s tastic.
Driver's Seat, by Sniff 'n' The Tears. Only got into the Top 40 here because of a pressing plant issue delayed release after their TOTP appearance. Bigger hit worldwide, though.
If we lived in America
M, Pop Music..... Even charridee rockers U2 used it as a tour intro.
Ride on time black box
Stiltskin Inside
Credit to the Nation - Call it What You Want
Not strictly a one hit wonder, should have been far more successful.
+1 Martha and the Muffins.
Saw creadit to the nation at rock city, supporting theropy? no less.

Actually they were a one hit wonder, but with "Teenage Sensation", not "Call it What You Want", which I am listening to now, and it is awesome.
8)
Can't believe it was twenty ago I was bouncing to that at the Cambridge Junction. (ETA: also supporting Therapy?)
Good times.
Teenage Sensation, how did I forget that track?
Will be in the loft tomorrow digging the album out, happy memories, finishing college and heading to uni...
IIRC I saw them at the Manchester Academy, vague, hazy memories...
Happy memories of Gunshot 25 Gun Salute as well, though I guess Mind of a Razor or Colour Code were their one hit wonder contenders....
Its immaterial, if they had another hit I don't know about it.
