Right I want to do away with all my CD's & DVDs and have them all digital.

CDs are easy encode in iTunes, got a little dock that plugs the ipod into the AMP

Is there anything that will encode all my DVD and have them as a menu on the telly so I can just choose them as and when?

Rip them to .avi files then buy an xbox60 to stream them from your computer to the telly.

I rip them to files using Handbrake into iTunes and then they appear on the telly via my Apple TV. TBH - if a film is available on the iTunes store, I just buy it on there these days, though - less hassle.

Looking at Apple TV, is it worth the cash?

For me, who has well and truly sold her soul to the Apple devil, yes I think so. The UI is amazing - the best I've seen by a very long way on such a gizmo.

My job is in IT so (probably unusually) I don't want to spend time fixing IT things at home - having Apple stuff throughout the house has so far meant I haven't had to.

I don't really have to "think" about the Apple TV - it just seems to act like a network-connected iPod that's connected to the telly.

It is apparently seen by Apple as a "hobby". Whether this bothers you or not is up to you.

Girls don't work in IT, or ride bikes for that matter 😉
