anyone know where the thermostat is on an audi a4 1998 1.6 petrol? I reckon it's at the front coming off the bottom right hand corner of the rad but not sure and don't want to drain the coolant to find it isn't..

Already found that one and it's completly different, will check engine code later...
And no she's fine, just running a little cold, as a thermostat costs 3 quid and i'm going to be taking the bottom off anyway to service it i thought i'd sort it out..

If it's like my 1.8 it's at the bottom near the back. Easy job.

I saw a pic of a 1.8 thermostat location but it's not the same as i have no access at all to that area behind the sump on mine... probably worth picking up a haynes manual i suppose

You could try putting a bit of cardboard in front of the rad to reduce the airflow through it.
I had an iffy thermostat years ago, the car ran cold and the fuel economy was worse too.

Right hand side of engine, attached straight to the block. Most thermostats are attached to the engine, don't often find them in pipes.

Best solution I ever found was removing a thermostat, running a shorter timing belt, blanking the standard water pump, fitting an electric unit with an electronic controller, ideal for trackday/race cars.

Edit: Oops too late, should have read more, out of interest RickT, where did you get the parts diagrams from, is there an audi parts database online like realoem for bmw?
