Our motorhome is new shape Movano(Pug Boxer) and I want to fit a rear view mirror as it doesn't have one (it was originally a van with a bulkhead prior to conversion).
The windscreen is just glass, there is no bracket inside the screen so I cannot raid the PSA parts bin and just fit a standard mirror from Ducato/Boxer/Relay.

Has anyone got any ideas on how to fit a rear view mirror? I thought about a suction cup like for satnav but the heat/cold can affect them. I suppose that a glued-on bracket will suffer the same problem.

You can get special double-sided pads specifically for this purpose.

Edit - a very quick search found these...

Years ago on a kit car I tried one that had a mesh pad and some special glue to attach it to the windscreen.

It was crap.

I got a small suction cup one instead which was much better.

This was almost 30 years ago mind, so tech may have improved since then.

Halfords have both stick on and suction mirrors. Could be worth a look.

Don't forget STW and Cycling UK members get a Halfords discount 😉

On 2nd thoughts I could get a reverse camera to attach to the mirror but it would need to handle the extra weight....

I used this type to hold on a pretty heavy mirror with electric gubbins in. The first one failed after 6 months. The second attempt was still going after 5 years.

I concluded I did something wrong the first time.

I once bought an aftermarket stick-on RVM using 1990s technology.  It was absolutely fine for years and all 1970s windscreens were just glass.  I'm sure you'll be fine.

I have towel rails in the bathroom held on with sticky pads.  Preparation is critical.  Clean the surface with IPA (no, not the beer), heat up the pad with a hairdryer, slap it to the surface and lean on it for a couple of minutes.  If you can, leave it for 24 hours before applying load.  I haven't had cause to test it but I'm reasonably confident that the towel rails could bear the weight of a human swinging on it.  A mirror should be chicken feed.

If it's fallen off a couple of times then if doesn't work fine, does it. 😁

I have half a memory that I had a suction cup one and it was crap and kept falling off, but again this was a very long time ago.

I hadn’t realised members got a Halfords discount! I bought a 5ltr bottle of RainX screen wash yesterday, that might have saved me a few bob!

The windscreen is just glass, there is no bracket inside the screen so I cannot raid the PSA parts bin and just fit a standard mirror from Ducato/Boxer/Relay.

A vast vast number of cars and vans use a "sticky pad" from the factory. Less so these days as they all have a big sensor array behind the top centre of the screen, which gives an ideal location for a bracket.

I had another look and it is just glass but the centre bit at the top between the sun visors has a black/grey layer on it - probably to protect from the sun
