I'm planning on taking my wife to London for a short break to see a show (for her 50th birthday) and wanted to plan in a really nice meal too – I was thinking Thai/Oriental as that's her favourite (I half-considered Dishoom but, although she likes Indian, it's more my thing than hers). Cost isn't a massive barrier (although I don't want to spend silly money) – but around £150 per head could be swallowed and, as she rarely drinks more than one glass of wine, any alcohol portion of the bill won't be too much.

It doesn't *have* to be Thai/Oriental, but it's somewhere to start!

Thank you!

Gouqi, but it ain't cheap.

Speedboat Bar is good fun and more informal.

Hus gets good reviews too but I've not eaten there.

Oh my, so many options, but sticking to the general theatre disctrict:

Fumo on St Martin's Lane for Posh Italian

Beijing Dumpling just North of Leicester Square for Chinese bit rough and ready and you will probably have to queue the but food's lovely.

Chung 'Dam in Soho for Korean

Temper in Soho for meatiness

Cafe Pacifico in Covent Garden for proper Mexican.

Was at Dishoom a couple of times last month (Kensington and Brighton)

Have been to the one in Shoreditch many times 7-8 years ago.

Don't think it's worth the hype anymore. Seems very expensive for the portion sizes and their selection of beers is way off.

Not expensive or posh, quite noisy and informal, but hands down best Thai is Som Saa.

It's out Whitechapel way, Commercial Rd but a short walk from Liverpool St on the Central or Lizzie Line from TCR or Oxford Circus. Definitely worth the effort.
