Travellers! Mrs Merman and I have five days in Athens coming up, staying at a fairly central hotel.

Mrs Merman is struggling with her health so wandering round the city for hours on foot (which is what we've done for many other European capitals) is sadly out of the question this time.

In your experience, what's best to do, where's best to go, how's best to do it, what's to avoid etc.

TIA

You know it's going through a huge heatwave at the moment and lots of tourist attractions are shut during the middle of the day such as the acropolis.

timely thread as we love greece and want to visit athens too, so also happy for suggestions.

if you werent aware, theres a gregg wallace 'big weekends' series on ch5 catch-up, one of them is athens so may give you a few clues.

also if youre that way inclined and are there 29/30th, idles are playing the plissken festival there which we've also got an eye on ๐Ÿ˜‰
