It has bitten the dust hasn't it?
I've been watching the first series of Life on Mars recently and was surprised how dark some of them were.
Last nights episode of Ashes to Ashes seemed to be going down that darker route again. I guess we are going to see lots more of super mac!
after the 1st serise
it was on last night.
LoM was quite dark, A2A in comparison was a comedy but i prefer the slightly darker nature of life on mars. Not sure about last night, i liked it but something was missing. Maybe it'll sort itself out in a couple of episodes.
I do miss the clown
"Get your knickers on, you're nicked!"
Loved it ......a good hour of entertaiment IMO and I didn't even need the 80s sing-a-long because I knew all the words to the songs - including haircut 100.
I thought it was really good. Some dry humour, some new stuff to think about.
It's just that dark haired WPC.... I can't the image of her on the Mint credit card adverts out of my head.....
IMO totally average (apart from dogs etc speaking).
More cheese than France and FFS the clumsily over-egged violence and sexist attitudes are not funny (unless you are into Chubby Brown etc)
only watched the end, seemed ok,
life on mars was much better
and yeah the jokes are getting a bit thin
after watching the amazing Red Riding earlier in the year ashes to ashes all seems cheap and amatuerish
police brutality, sexism and corruption didnt seem quite so funny after seeing that
My only input is that I was surprised the trailer showing the coppers beating people up in a nightclub was shown at tea time*.
Felt like complaining to the Beeb 🙂
* supper/dinner depending upon your locale
after watching the amazing Red Riding
Now you see, I watched most of the first episode of that, and was bored to tears. IIRC I turned it off in the end. I thought it was rubbish.
But we're all different, and like different stuff.
🙂
Loved it!
I don't mind the fact that it's got a lighter feel to it than Life On Mars, it's still great entertainment in it's own right and miles better than most of the crap on TV nowadays.
I thought it was a bit like a trailer for a new series, self contained with only a few references to things which had come up in previous series.
Fox Force Five anyone?
It's completely crap, except that it has Keeley Hawes in it (albeit with a horrible haircut).
After getting a lady at work to collect the tokens from The Sun, I have just received my LoM Series 1 & 2 collection and it is brilliant!!
Great first series 😀 average second series 🙁 (imo because of the leading lady)and last night was going a bit OTT 😕 i know cops from the seventies and early eightes weren't the best by far, but I doubt if any of them spoke to a dead colleagues wife like the boss did last night.
I think it is going down the pan a bit like Shameless did 😥
Did they have electronic breathalyzer test kits back then?
Did enjoy it however, I think it's meant to be tongue in cheek these days.
It was an hour of entertaining telly, but nothing special. Got the feeling they were making too much of the soundtrack at the expense of content though.
Jimster - whats with the back then stuff. I was in me prime then, it's all yesterday to me.
"im a bull is this a china shop"
they must be running out of locations to shoot it in as london is having a makeover
Was my prime too, but I'm sure back in '82 it was plastic bags and crystals?
(Did they have electronic breathalyzer test kits back then?)
Yes they did have, I got stopped and breathalzyed twice in the space of a month, probably due to the big twin noisy exhaust on my VW Beetle (First car. As with now I only drink shandy if driving so was not over the limit, but both times the coppers give the car a real good scrutinise to see if they could get me on something else 👿 they never did find anything though 😛
plenty of locations in larndon
I feel like it's become formualic- in Life on Mars the fact that it was set in the 70's seemed well balanced aginst the story of what had happened to Sam, and where he was - while the setting was part of the story, it wasn't the real story whereas A2A seems to be an 80's nostalgia wallow with a thin storyline (sofar anyway). TBH, it was always going to be damn near impossible to follow up Life on Mars once the cat was out of the bag
Gawd it was even worse last night. Prolly the last time I shall bother with that gash.
I thought last weeks was a bit pour & nearly didnt bother to watch but last night had some great (although cheap) lines, made me laugh out loud a number of times.
Bolly :- " ahh, I see, so you are playing with them"
Gene :- "nah love, its just the way I am standing"
hahahaha
Thought it was great again.
It doesn't take itself too seriously - some of it is deliberately cringeworthy humour, but still had the wife and I laughing out loud a few times.
It's a bit of fun, at the end of the day.
