I have a shady garden. Have been trying for years and spent too much money trying to get a nice lawn to grow, but it always looks terrible. I've seen some really good looking artificial lawns but I'm guessing they are very pricey. Does anybody know anything about this? Can I lay it myself? Is it super expensive? Thanks!

It's extremely convincing and comes in several different grades or appearances. I've a cycling buddy who sells it up here in Lancashire. His name's Andrew and..... am I allowed to give him a plug....? His website is wesupplyartificialgrass.com Star bloke; give him a call.

Mine cost just under £30 m2 so yep it's expensive but it looks really good.

Think it's called Verdelawn. I got it from Estate Sawmills in Bradford. You buy cheaper stuff but it won't look as good.

Make a box (shuttering?) fill it with crush and run to a depth of 100mm then roller or whackerplate it. Roll out your turf, cut to size and there you go. I haven't added sand or pinned
mine down and its been fine.

YouTube the subject, there's loads of how to's.

Good luck.

Go to specsavers and start again.

He didn't mention the box having a lid, and specifically said that it didn't have any sand.

So, that box. Is there anything in it and is it alive?

Is it an upside down wine box?

There's a cat. Not sure if it's dead or alive.

My neighbour has it. Looked gawdy when it went down but looks good now it's dirty and weathered. Mate at work is getting it done and I know others who are considering it. Is it the new laminate flooring? I've heard from £10-30 per sq metre. Seems expensive relative to new turf and a bit of effort.

My folks have some in a small back garden.

Looks ok, but there are two drawbacks:

The local cats like to poo on it and it had to ne washed afterwards!

It feels wierdly hot when walking barefoot on it on a sunny day.
