We will be in touch
Anyone on here an adult instructor with the cadets? I’m thinking of giving it a go but there is very little info about what they expect you to do on their web pages.
Ask ARRSE.
Think I’m banned on there! I’m giving my local unit a bell tonight then I’ll pop in for a chat.
I was in the Atc as a ci then as I was going for my commission gave up. As I moved
Still miss bits and some faces
ACF or CCF?
ACF.
Much more work than CCF! You might find some more useful information here http://www.ctcfrimleypark.com/ but it’s probably easiest to give your local unit a ring.
Yep, just spoken to a chap at the local HQ and we are going to meet up on Monday.
Thanks for the link. The guy I spoke to got quite interested when I told him I shoot prone rifle for Derbyshire! I quite fancy being an SAA instructor.
Awesome! Cadets gave me some of the weirdest, hilarious and rewarding experiences I have ever had with young people. I also got really good at sleeping anywhere...not to mentioned all the heavily subsidised training courses for outdoor stuff, including skiing. It’s hard work, but fabulous!
Be careful... Cadets have an amazing ability to break rifles that are mostly squaddie proof.
😀
All my paperwork has now gone in (DBS etc) and last night was my first drill night at my local unit. If i can hit the dates for the various courses i need to do then I'll be a Sergeant by November apparently. At the moment that should be doable but it does depend on work.
Initial thoughts - its not as Military as i hoped (if that makes sense) but it seems thats been something that has changed in the last couple of years - and not for the better according to the other AI's I spoke to.
One good point was a lad who came in to drop his kit off as he's wanting to work on his GCSE's then he's got a date to join the Paras!

i went back as an AI after leaving at 18 for a couple of years, so i knew what it was like. Whilst it was still heavily military orientated, there were a number of safeguards coming in to do with working with young people which to me at the time seemed silly considering what the environment was. I enjoyed it immensely, but beer and girls (and MTB) got in the way so gave it up.
Interestingly i had no real interest in the military, but 7 years after leaving i ended up signing up for the Para's (that's a whole weird story in itself), and im convinced it was because i was missing aspects of the ACF. I've thought about going back to help out, but time won't allow at the moment as it's limited with family. I help occasionally at my sons Beavers, and the difference, notwithstanding age, in the 2 outfits is night and day but both with very good aspects.
If you can get to be a SAA instructor its awesome, the Bisley shoots still happen i think, i miss the falling plate competition. Oh yes as Willard say, never underestimate the ability for cadets to break shiv, and lose it!
oh and loads of trips to the hole that is Capel Curig just to put you in the mood for an ascent of Snowdon.
I’d like to get the SAA ticket and they do CPSA as well which would be nice as I’m crap at clays so some paid for coaching would be great!
SAA is a drama currently though as detachments have had to hand back all their DP rifles as someone in authority has decided that they could easily be made to work again and they do t want to risk them falling into the wrong hands
