HI there. Earlier in the year I decided to buy a massive bag of cheap pond fish food on eBay because I figured fish would eat anything. Since then they have not really fed as much as they usually do, but I decided this was probably due to water temperature etc. After running out of this bag I bought some Nishikoi pond sticks to get me by, and they seem to love them! They are now swarming to the top, come feeding time, and they seem to be eating much more. Is it just my imagination or do the more expensive brands actually taste better to the fish? Kind of Tesco Finest compared to Value. Has anyone else noticed their fish having a preference to a certain brand/quality of food.

Well when you consider how many cats fall for the Whiskas marketing hype, then it isn't exactly surprising if garden pond fish do too.
It think it makes a huge difference. Using better food is usually better for the water quality as it tends to be more digestible and less goes to waste.
You spoil your fish!
get a half pint of reds in there, they love live food.

Was talking to my fish man and he says that the better quality foods produce less waste as more is digested. ie crap food loads of fish poo, quality food less fish poo less stress on the filters etc = happier fish!
How true it is I do not know as I haven't researched it.
fish are exactly like us im afraid! What tastes good is eaten without question! The important thing is that you feed them high quality food. This means the right food for your fish but of a 'good' component quality. I stick to higher quality food as they 'enjoy' it but more importantly it's good 'for them'. You also don't want to get them fat with too high a quality food!(hepatic lipidosis is rife in ornamental fish)
There's no point in buying 1kg of rubbish food that 'they eat' but don't 'grow' with......
good luck! and "spend money on your fish and they WILL reward you" 😀
P.S. i am an amatuer - this is just what i have found works for me, it may not work for you....
Just an amateur? You sound properly knowledgable to me. Thanks for the advice. Will steer clear of the really cheap food from now on.
