Morning!
I have recently bought a property and decided to poke my head into the loft yesterday and noticed a couple of the supports bending - I am by no means not a roofer but I wouldn’t have said they are supposed to be bending. It wasn’t something the building surveyors mentioned or raised as an issue either.
Does anybody have any advice before I get someone in?

those are not roof supports but ceiling hangers to prevent the ceiling sagging. they are hanging from the roof in tension not supporting it in compression. nowt to worry about.
Looking at the thickness of those they aren't supporting anything!
No idea why they are there to be honest - may be a previous occupants addition. Or they could be holding the ceiling below up!

The time to poke your head in the loft was on first viewing! 😬
TJ has it.
that looks eerily like my loft about 15 years ago. Aside from the bent hangers and the better-looking mortar on that supporting wall
were you checking it before putting in some more insulation?
the inside of my roof looks the same, it hasnt fallen down yet.... house has been standing since 1930 - I moved in in 2006.

Have you checked that big roll for a body? 😳
Some of this advice makes me feel better anyway, and yes I know I probably should have gone up into the loft when viewing it (lesson learnt)!
I also thought with it not being mentioned on the survey it wasn’t an issue but getting a second opinion off strangers on the internet seems wise 😬😂
Was going up to double check how much insulation was already in there and if it needed some more, the house has been standing since 1890!

Not yet. That’s the next job… ☠️
Second check is that brick work it's not next door on the other side is it?

No, that is part of my loft as well
Makes me feel better about the state of my loft.

I’ll be sending someone else up first to check behind that wall now 😂 Took me a minute to spot it!
You have house guests
Surely this should be on the Halloween thread
Looks just like my loft (late Victorian terraced) apart from those vertical bits.
Don't know whether to be worried, or say not to worry about it
Definitely ceiling hangers - they "help" if the ceiling joists are potentially undersized.
Victorian house by any chance?
Just be careful when you're up there!
(We flipped a terrace house where the bedroom ceilings bowed when we tried to overboard and skim them despite the ceiling hangers)
Most of the ceilings are okay, we are having one skimmed though so will bear that in mind cheers. Yes it’s a Victorian end terrace built around 1890 and was the old station masters house (the station is no longer there though)
Picture is missing a bicycle in the foreground in order to critique properly, please sort.
Skimming old ceilings is a hiding to nothing IMO.
The extra weight of the new gypsum plaster will start to pull the old lathe/horse hair/anthrax off and it'll look just as bad.
Lining paper would be my advice if you can't face pulling the ceiling down and starting again (which is a horrific job).
