Okay i need to put windows on my mac so I can run autoCAD, I have just bought windows 7 and intend to use bootcamp to install it.
My question is at a later date can I install vmware or parallels and run windows through that or would I need to install one of these first?
As far as I know you can install VMWare/Parallels and use this to boot your existing Windows partition from within OSX.

As far as I'm aware, you can run with bootcamp to get started then add VMWare or Parallels later, although from the point of view of ease of use installing a virtual machine first would be ideal, 'cos then you can run both at the same time; bootcamp only allows one OS to run at a time. VMWare always seems to get better reviews, but Parallels was the first on the market I believe, and works pretty well. Parallels is only about £50, so it's not a bank-breaker anyway.
yep, I ran win7 under bootcamp for a while then sourced a copy of parallels.
sun virtual box is free and does a good job.
I'm speculating here..i presume you're asking whether you can access the same files using both methods
Bootcamp uses a separate partition on the HDD, parallels and vmware are emulators so presumably store their data on the same partition as OSX uses.
Reading back that makes little sense, ah well.
Thanks guys, I just hope i can run my AutoCAD on it otherwise it's an expensive mistake.
