I've heard good things about Apple TV - but will it just stream stuff I'm playing from my computer via say, iTunes e.g. movies I've rented, etc.
Whereas, if I were to watch a movie streamed from LoveFilm or iPlayer, that wouldn't stream to the TV?
Then I found that there are hacks like this one which open it up - in which case - if it's hacked, can you then stream any video across to the TV?
More expensive - but what about a ps3? It has iplayer and lovefilm, and there is software out there that lets you stream content to it from your computer.
Plus you get a games console and a blu ray player
love my apple tv2 - well worth 99 quid. I saw that XMBC hack too, quite tempting, but TBH I don't have enough other stuff to warrant doing it ATM. I just rent from the Store, and start watching within 15 secs, no downloading time, it's great. And you can stream from the ipad/iphone too.
Yes, Apple TV is just streaming or downloading from iTunes. I looked into it but decided to get BT Vision and a PS3 instead, that way I can stream films from either BT Vision or the PS3, you get iplayer and 4oD on both, BTVision box as a huge harddrive for recording freeview, then I can also use the PS3 as a media storage device and a Blu ray player, and oh yeah I forgot you can play games on the PS3 all in glorious HD.
I love my apple tv 2. I have been using handbrake to convert whatever files i have in other formats to mp4 which are compatible with itunes.
Am considering jailbreaking it soon. My question about jailbreaking is - if I make a mess of jailbreaking it can i just reset it to the factory settings?
Apple TV is for mugs. Anyone who knows anthing about streaming media would know better.
If you need to ask, Apple TV is probably for you. Idiot!
Well at the moment, I have a new Sony tellybox which connects to the interwebby - so I can watch iPlayer, LoveFilm and other on demand stuff on that - however, to say that the interface and speed at which it works is "clunky" is a bit of an understatement - and that's nothing to do with the speed of data in the tubes coming into my house.
I already have an XBox360 degree video gaming console (which also has on demand stuff) so getting a PS3 is sort of out of the question.
Streaming through a Mac is always the easiest to do - so doing that and being able to view it through the screen on the tellybox would be great.

Same question from me.

If it is like JB'ing an iPhone, which it should be as it is iOS based, then you just restore the original firmware and it is as new.

Poor effort.
Poor effort.
It was indeed very poor. Almost merited ignoring TBH.

Well, that was the original plan, but I thought I would get a restrained response in before some of our more vociferous Apple fans turned this thread into the usual x vs y argument. Which I believe was the posters intentions.

Spongebob's predictable trolling.
I was recently very tempted with apple tv, to the point of harassing the people in the apple store about it. Was trying to work out what it could do for me.
I then realised it couldn't really do anything that the ps3 couldn't apart from play any itunes drm, of which I don't have any.
DRM still winds me up - as what I would like to do is download movies from the itunes store as they mostly have 5.1 sound, whereas the ones on the ps3 store mostly still seem to have 2.0 & then stream it to the ps3 without paying £104 for the privilege.
Why not just get a hdmi lead, mini dvi converter and plug it into the tv, effectively using it as a 2nd monitor? This will probably get annoying if the computer isn't in the same room, though.
I also agree with Spongebob 🙂
I don't think Spongebob was trolling. I reckon it was plain FACT.

Another poor attempt 🙄
