What size is more useful to you. Not a great deal between the air and air2 although the former is now in short supply.

OH had a full-size pad, ended up selling it and getting a mini.

But her requirements may differ from yours, your question is basically "what do I want?" How would we know? Give us a clue?

I'd agree with "it depends".

I like having a full size iPad because I read magazines on it and the screen is roughly a magazine page size so it feels very natural.

But then I mostly use it sat on the couch. If I was travelling with it all the time I might want a mini.

And how much stuff do you want to put on there?

FWIW (and it will be different from your requirements) I originally got a retina iPad with 16gb as I thought it would be everything I would ever need. Now my kids are a bit older (5) and they want to watch films with us in bed of a weekend, play games (and use for school work too), my ancient iPod has just died (that I had all my music on). I have also just been bought a docking station (before the iPod died). I also find that the iPad is a bit heavy to use on the sofa so end up reverting to my phone when idly browsing whilst relaxing in front of the TV.

So now I am considering a 128gb Mini so I can ram it with all my music, films, games and educational apps and have something I want to pick up and use rather than my phone.

So what I am saying is that circumstances change so try to consider what you want now and couple it with what you might want to do with it in the future.

Don't get the New iPad mini 3. It's really not worth the extra over the Mini 2.

Unless you need the additional capacity of course....

I could do with something big enough to watch Iplayer etc comfortably but also be portable enough to carry around.
Not that bothered about using it as my main camera.

I also wondered if going down the iPad route has any great advantages over something like a Samsung Tab, Hudl etc.

Are they worth the extra cost?

OP I have an Air 2 (replaced my trusty 4yr old iPad 1) and the gf has a Retina Mini 2 (bought as the latest model 6 months ago)

Go to a shop and look at / handle both.

I prefer the larger screen of the Air2 also its overall dimensions are smaller now. The Mini is great for gf as it's handbag sized. For my Air2 I have a Satchell (man bag 🙂 ). As I need reading glasses the larger screen is better for me, don't forget when you are navigating pages using touch screen you have to touch the menu option and that's harder with smaller screen/requires you to zoom in. Have a play first hand and then decide.

I had a 64gb iPad1 and never filled it up (all my music, lots of documents and photos, quite a few full length HD films), I would have got a 32gb Air2 but they sell the 64gb only now and for same price. IMO 16gb is too small.

There will be Black Friday (Thanksgiving in the US sales) very soon in the UK and that's your best (only) chance of a discount so decide soon

OP I think the Apple are worth the extra but others don't - your question is a whole can of worms which has been argued over here many times

It is quite a lot of extra cost especially with some of the deals around. IMO the better android tablets are generally on a par with apple. Do some things better, some things not as well. You need a good reason to buy apple, if you don't have one then save your pounds and get Hudl or LG (not a fan of samsung).
