just read this

anyone any experience of this? Although i suspect most of us on here are doing more than 3 mins of excercise a week anyway!
Sounds like Tabata-lite from the article - 20 secs spring, rest x 3 rather than 20 secs sprint, 10 rest x 8. And only once a week for the 3 minute version rather than 4 times for the original Tabata protocol.
Maybe it's a way of convincing couch potatoes that they can do exercise that fits into the ad breaks in Corrie.
This covers a lot of similar ground.

However, I think really interesting thing in that BBC article is the mention of a genetic test that indicates your responsiveness to this type of exercise. Need to read a bit more about that.

think it's for people who currently do no exercise rather than us highly trained dirt spartans....
The Horizon programme about this is on tonight (BBC2 9pm), I was going to do a PSA but can't be arsed.
From that Horizon link
Michael Mosley receiving TMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation) to initiate a muscular response. TMS was used to stimulate a part of Michael’s motor cortex which triggered contraction of his leg muscle. TMS in this case was used to show that Michael’s muscles were able to produce a greater force compared to when Michael causes the contraction on his own (after a period of intense exercise).
Can't wait to see bike helmets with this built in.
Though I suspect the camelback required for the power pack might be a limiting factor 🙂
"highly trained dirt spartans" amused me a lot 🙂

It seems "sprint" based and if so its easy to determine individual effectiveness based on the proportion of "fast twitch" muscle fibres.
I think a lot of people think that getting fit involves spending hours and hours at it. It's good to show people that it doesn't actually take much.
Mrs Grips has been seeing great improvements in everything just by using a kettlebell for 5 mins a few times a week.
That TMS looks like exercise for lazy people, like those slender tone jobbies.
or does it have proper uses like rehabilitation for injuries and such?
I think we need a few more threads about this.
