Love the low-altitude speed record info in that first link! Phantoms and Buccaneers were unbelievable at super-low altitude stuff.

That Buccaneer photo is terrific, seriously low level! I just wish I could track down the Nevada ‘Red Flag’ footage I once saw on the Beeb news from gun cameras of a pair of Buccaneer in the desert at about that height.

I have a good mate who used to fly them, if you need a pilot. Though I doubt he'd fit in the cockpit these days!

He could confirm that they are good at low level stuff. He flew one under the Humber Bridge. Inverted. Got into quite a lot of trouble...

I was at RAF Coltishall not long after the first Gulf War and chatting to some of the Jaguar pilots, they reckoned that most of their Iraq missions were done at an average height of less than 100ft

Surely for low level you want a nice Warthog!

Me too. Great little things, often overshadowed by flashier or bigger planes.

Up there with Harriers for coolness...

Which ones though? Original or the us-'improved' version?

Weirdest stealth ad I’ve seen.

Totally agree Matt. Can't believe we got rid of Harriers when the US Marines still think of them of an essential tool to their armoury.

If it was a stealth ad it would be for a F 117.

A 55 year old plane that hasn't flown in decades and probably won't, ever again. sorry, im out. However, clicking through that link I just saw this Tucano on that link...

Always thought Tucano's looked the business (years ago I got buzzed by one up near Hawes that was flying near inverted down a valley...nearly silent until it was right overhead)

Now where's my lottery ticket?

Got this Jag getting cleaned up after take off at RAF Church Fenton (?) airshow, around 1977 ish.
Saw lots of VERY low flying at airshows in those days. Including one Jag at Leuchars that came over the crowdline at about 200ft & 450knts from the opposite direction that the commentator said it was coming from, so everyone was looking left & it came from the right. Cue lots of sweary words.

I'm a bit of a Lightning fan, for all of it's hilariously short endurance and propensity toward falling into the North Sea on fire. A lot.

SWMBO and I often have crossed words when the hypothetical subject of if-you-won-the-euromillions-what-would-you-park-in-our-driveway type pub conversations. I'd totally have a polished F2A on my driveway.

Careful with the Tucano...it uses a Garmin 500 so definitely won't connect to your phone!
