Apparently, it's great for making fire starters by adding wax, or as mulch for your garden compost, or as kitty litter, etc.
I don't go camping or have a wood burner, so I don't need the fire starters.
I produce more wood chippings than I can use for my compost.
I don't have pets.
If anyone wants it, it's free to collect by the bin bag full.
Sawdust and shavings can be useful for you in the workshop - good way for disposing of surplus paints etc - which recycling centres generally don't accept becuase to the problems of leaks and spillage- mixing them into sawdust solves that.
While I always have plenty to dispose of (running a CNC machine 12 hours a day for 3 solid weeks recently made sure of that!) I always keep a quantity stashed away for that purpose and for things like texturing paints and resins etc
Given you've been playing with resins and also have a lathe ย - have a look at Frank Howarth's videos on YouTube - he has a video of turning cast blocks of the contents of his dust collector.
While your there - his April fools video from a few years back 'Tree Plays Piano' is a good watch too
I have plenty for spills and general cleaning, but producing more than I can use.
I also have six individual bags of fine sawdust of six different coloured woods I've used so far. These are great for filling in the slight gaps in joints, not that any of my wood joints ever have any gaps in them.
Unfortunately, a massive allergic reaction to epoxy and the hardeners in resins means I'm not going to be doing any more resin work. That's why I've taken up woodturning.ย
