There's a chap locally that makes all sorts of stuff from plant pot holders to the full range of garden/indoor furniture, mostly out of recycled wood, eg scaffolding boards. He sent me a photo but it was very posh and I was looking for rustic or shabby chic.
I need some ideas please. Was thinking of shoe racks made from maybe old pallets.
My imagination doesn't run to this (only soft furnishings).

Has anyone made anything like this, or even bought something themselves.

Pictures please? Thank you.

Made from random offcuts left after house renovations...

If I'd had a router at the time, I could have finished off the edges a lot neater, IIRC the guys installing new sash windows left loads of rounded planks used to make the window sills, which I just re-purposed....

Hang on, is this like 'How do you make a Venetian blind?' I don't get it.

We've got a really cheap shoe rack at home that is currently broken, which I keep meaning to replace. At the moment, it's stashed in the cupboard under the stairs so gets consistently overlooked.

BUT - I do intend to get on with making a new one soon. I'll probably use 12 or 15mm dowel & 3-D print the joints - just because I enjoy the process & it's nice to have something unique.

Kinda like this, but I'd probably waste a load of time designing my own versions....

Just keep your eyes on fb marketplace for old bookcases/ bookshelves. You can paint them grey or make them even shabbier, or even both.

Put shoes on it, and hey presto - shoe rack.

I don't have a pic but we used a bunch of old apple boxes sanded up and stacked together. Looked pretty nice.

The apple boxes idea sounds very much like the thing I'm after.

nobeerinthefridge - Please post up the finished project when it's made.

We bought something like the below off ebay 2nd hand from a guy moving his fettling workshop. Cost £50 and does the job perfectly (after I cleaned all the mechanics oil/grease off it).

Ours has small pigeon holes up top which are perfect for shoes and bigger holes down below which are good for wellies or the kids school bags etc.
