I've picking these things up of beach for years.

I have often wondered what they are used for are.

Thoughts, so far.

Plastic bung. Even though I have never see one in use anywhere.
Alien invasion.
Butt plugs for action man or barbie.
Contents of a container lost at sea in the 70's
Offcut by product manufactuer.

Captain Flotsam for scale.

I bet an STW expert will know for sure.

I’ve been cleaning beaches in Pembrokeshire for 20 years and I’ve never seen one of those, so I can’t help, sorry!

Which coastline are you finding them on?

I don't know how tall that plastic soldier is but those look like the bungs from BiC pens.

Sometimes when you buy a part of a hydraulic system the inlet/outlet port has a little disposable plastic bung in it to keep it sealed until it is connected. They look like those, but the ones I remember were red..................

My first thought was hydraulics/fuel system/coolant for automotive, but as above, they're always red IME

They're two different things aren't they? One looks male to the other's female?

One looks male to the other’s female?

We don’t use gender labels anymore.

They’re pan-fitting

Red for liquid, blue for pneumatic? Pretty sure all the Festo caps are blue, but look a lot flimsier than that shown in the pic.

I'll sort out some better photos tomorrow.

Timeframe for finding these on patch. 1977 to present. I remember seeing shorter and differing colours. Nearly always blue and some reds.

My guess is that they're bungs to go on the end of sticks, not into holes, probably during transit. When the sticks arrive at their destination, the bungs are discarded. But what kind of sticks??

15mm height
13mm dia base, the 11.5mm and 11mm at top dia.
One is solid and other is bored out.
I reckon some sort of marine hydraulic/pipework bung and flung overboard.

It's the raw unrefined blue passport, they collect nearly 100 of them to forge a brave new passport to nowhere.

My entire battalion of Action Jacks went out with the tide, Skegness 1982. Gutted. They'll still be out there somewhere.

The blue things, pipe/valve plugs used offshore, fishing, or farming my guess, for the quantity they wash up in - either that or a container of them sank!
