We will be in touch
Hi,
I'm looking for summer holiday options and had been to Vass before (with Clubb Vass) although before kids. Alpine/Ocean Elements seems to have all the boxes ticked on childcare, free mountain bike hire, windsurfing etc etc but I wondered if anyone has any experience of them, good or bad?
Not sure how good the biking is there around Vassiliki although I guess I'll be doing a fair bit of windsurfing.
I'd welcome any other summer holiday ideas. The Wife wants a proper summer holiday somewhere warm for a change and I can't cope sitting on a beach. We have 2 boys aged 10 & 8.
cheers folks
For what you're after, I cannot recommend Neilson highly enough.
Halkidiki is ace as an all rounder. Not as much wind as Vass, sometimes....Sometimes it chucks a big one and it's awesome.
Included are;
Wakeboard and waterski, plus tuition (The boys will love it!)
Windsurf, plus tuition
Sailing, plus tuition
Tennis, plus tuition
Bikes, with guided rides
Etc, etc, etc.
All food, bar two nights a week when you saunter in to the local village for dinner (if you go to Halkidiki, let me know, I know a few spots, oh, and say hi to Pete! 🙂 )
All you pay extra for is booze, really.
The staff are all really enthusiastic, and they want you to try stuff, they want you to be good at stuff. Enthusiasm is the only word for it!
Really recommended. Very much recommended.
Wow CFH that's some recommendation indeed. I'll be looking into that for sure. I forgot about Neilson! I was speaking to one of their reps a few years ago at Moutnain Mayhem I recall.
Thanks, and I'l certainly let you know if we do go
I've used them many times for summer, hence the recommendation!
I can't stand just sitting on a beach. Neilson holidays are waaaaay, waaay away from just sitting on a beach. But, and here's the good thing, if you want to just sit on the beach one day, no one minds! 🙂
Brilliant holidays, brilliant staff (Especially Dan and Caz! 🙂 ) The flights are a bit rubbish, to be honest, but you can work around that (Either by booking separate flights or by just MTFU! 😉 )
Get yerself to Trimpley. Can't be beaten IMHO.
It's often warm on a Monday afternoon at about 3:55.
Hey Ben there's an idea! camping by the side of the reservoir, free boat hire and lots of good trails nearby!
Yup the flying bit's a pain especially as the misses is scared of flying and hates all the queuing palarva! Flying from Gatwick is no problem as we have family down the road. I see the resort is adult only except for July and August. Hey oh, full price it is then. Hope it's not too hot!
You knows it!
Spend the holiday money on an uppy-downy seatpost.
Oh. Too late.
Build an extension then 😉
Ah yes, the extension, forgot about that! Hmmm, back to camping holidays perhaps!
It's an out of bike experience so far that upon downy post, plan is to attempt fitting on Saturday or I'll pop round with rubber mallet, cable cutters and see if the fettle master can assist. Should be ok though.
Yes, I've been with AE. Rides are short (up to 2.5 hours in the morning) but there's some nice trails up there. Don't even think about taking your own bike though - the Konas HTs they have are fine. You might find the pace a little frustrating too so just enjoy the scenary and look forward to what will be the first of many "frappucinos".
First time windsurfing for me, but they appear to know what they are doing. I've been with AE for biking and snow holidays, and this is the most efficiently run organisation of the three. Food and drink also good, but in our hotel room we got attacked by many midges through the night (buy some anti-bug spray from across the road) and air con did not work properly. All else fine with accommodation. I can't remember prices, but we got quite a bargain in the end. Don't be afraid to call up and see if you can get a better deal (gives them the opportunity to stop you booking elsewhere).
Hi
We've been to Vass 4 times with Neilson. The MTBing on Levkas is good especially now that I know the island. It's the best Neislon location for MTBing. The riding is predominantly rocky and the Mrs prefers to take her Five but I'm fine with HT hire bikes. You can put together 4-5 hour rides in the morning get back for lunch then catch Eric (the wind) in the afternoon. A great way to spend a day.
This may half term Neilson Vass is full so we're going with Club Vass.
Another massive recommendation for Neilson, every time we've ben with them, everything has been top notch.
I've gone from Porto Heli. Long (3hrs) transfer from Athens, but good biking. One of the best days on any holiday I've been on was a ferry to the island of Spetses, rode over the top, had lunch in a taverna, swan into some caves, biked back over, and dinner in the town before a ferry back.
Halkidiki was also good, but only spent one night in the hotel as we were on a two week flotilla. Hotel seemed pretty posh and food was excellent. I preferred Porto Heli personally, and its also in a nearly-enclosed bay so great for safety for the little ones.
Cheers folks, Neilson certainly seem to get good feedback.
Tonyg I went with Club Vass on my honeymoon some 13 years ago and it was great. Didn't do much biking then but glad you found sone really good trails. I like the idea of a morning ride followed by lunch then a battle with Eric!
Will check out Porto Heli too.
The idea is to leave the bikes at home and use the hire ones. Bike packing for big Alps trip only!
Went to Vass with Neilson in 99,00 and 01 and had some of the best holidays ever. Note that Neilson have the sandy end of the beach. As you walk along the bay to the vilage past the other operations it gets much stonier.
Went to Finikounda with Neilson in 02. Slightly bigger operation with dinghy sailing on offer for quiet wind days. The day sail down the coast and back was worth turning up for. Not so much biking as Vass though.
