Trying to sort some parking for a long weekend that is not on the street whilst I'm on a cycling trip. A large drive or secure yard would be ideal, I just don't want to leave my camper unattended on the street for several days. Have not had much luck finding anywhere, not even a commercial storage place. If you are local and have ideas, please send me a message in my profile 🙂

Thanks

We parked two T5 campers behind the Offa’s Dyke visitor centre in Knighton for 3 days when we did the Transcambrian Way. Plenty of space and lit but a bit tucked away

Thanks, I had tried to take a peek there but streetview isn't very good! My van is a 6 metre hightop, are the spaces big enough? Normally overhangs a space by about a metre. My van hasn't got the best locks etc so generally try to park in low risk areas if its for any length of time.

Slightly daft suggestion, but have you tried a campsite, given that you were looking at commercial storage places.

If you get one of those farm ones with limited facilities it'll probably be pretty cheap.

As a former Presteigne resident I'd suggest very few people in Knighton work.

Offa's dyke centre isn't a bad shout or if you are happy to start a couple of flat miles further down the valley you could try the Baron in Bucknell.

Thanks mrhoppy.

And surprisingly, no camping or caravan storage places anywhere near Knighton, even the B&Bs look like they have very limited parking so not much change of leaving the van for the weekend after 1 nights stay

How about the railway station car park in knighton? I imagine you can buy a long stay, or just accept the parking tickets!
I left my camper in a layby at the other end of trans Cambrian and worried the whole time so I appreciate your concern.

And surprisingly, no camping or caravan storage places anywhere near Knighton,

It's not that surprising really, it's a large village in the arse end of nowhere, elevated to being a town purely because there's very little else about, with nothing much in the way of tourism.

I can tell you are happy to have moved MrHoppy!

I grew up in Dorset and Knighton would count as a good size market town 🙂

My parents moved there about a year ago and say that crime is basically nil. There is a big car park by the community centre that commercials often use. If you are really desparate then they said that you could leave it on their drive!

I just don’t want to leave my camper unattended on the street for several days.

My mum and dad once went for a walk there. One of my Dad's finest forgetful moments, he didn't just leave the car unlocked, he left the door open and the keys in the ignition. It was still there when they got back four hours later 🙂

There's also a trading estate just out of town where you could park.
I don't live in Newtown thankfully but know people that do and crime is a kind of non issue round there.
Well apart from spilling someones pint in a pub in town...

Reassuring to hear that after reading this yesterday 🙂 https://www.countytimes.co.uk/news/17488225.vans-targeted-for-tool-thefts-at-knighton-and-presteigne/

Shackleton, if I get desperate I will be in touch!

The fact that they report a van break in, in the local rag should be proof enough of eff all crime

Just park it here, no hight restrictions, lit, rates for buses ect so your camper wouldn't be a problem.
