- looks like the hardest part in this country is finding land and getting planning permits, stupid money for a slip of land with planning permission, is there a better way?
Secret tree house?
It's an option I'm looking at at the moment, but it does seem to be more expensive than just buying a house as the only plots for sale are vast.

yeah, buy a slip of land without planning permission and apply for permission yourself.
it's not a route i'd take unless my best mate was on the planning committee and in answer to your thread title, yes.
Currently building my own house at the moment.
Great fun.
I did buy something with PP as it was a case of seizing the moment for me, but Id be happy to apply for PP on a green/brownfield, but then Im a surveyor and can blag the blag.
My paying job is real estate finance and analysis so securing a development loan for the build was a little easier for me than most too, but I still used a broker for an introduction.
If you have other questions, drop me a line.
I also recommend a visit to the self build permanent exhibition at Swindon and a subscription to Build it and Self build magazines for background info.
weekendworrier - your foundations look more substantial than mine 😉
